The Backpack was to be the secondary unlockable weapon for the Scout. The Backpack would have allowed Scouts to pick up items such as health, ammo, and metal and drop them in the field for easier access to allies. This would have been similar to a feature all classes could access in Team Fortress Classic. The backpack was eventually replaced by Bonk! Atomic Punch. Another backpack is used as part of the Soldier unlockable weapon, the Buff Banner, which has the banner itself sprouting from the backpack; however, its functions are completely unrelated to this. A backpack is also used in one of the Soldier's Polycount weapons, the Battalion's Backup.
