For the first time in my life, I'm at a loss for words!
The Scout on gold plated frying pans

The Golden Frying Pan is a melee weapon for all classes. It is an Australium-plated Frying Pan.

The Golden Frying Pan functions identically to the default melee weapon for the player's chosen Class, but with two added cosmetic functions: upon contact with a surface or player, it will play pan weapon sounds from Left 4 Dead 2, and, any enemies killed with it will produce motionless statues of pure Australium, instead of the normal ragdolls. Any Jiggle Bones on enemy ragdolls are also frozen by this effect. In addition, a special sound effect - unique to this weapon, the Golden Wrench, and the Saxxy - is played upon killing any enemy.

All Golden Frying Pans drop as a Strange quality weapon, and have a Professional Killstreak Kit pre-applied to them.

The only way to obtain a Golden Frying Pan is in a very rare drop received for completing an Advanced or Expert Tour of Duty in Mann Up mode.

Update history

November 21, 2013 Patch

  • [Undocumented] The Golden Frying Pan was added to the game.

May 29, 2014 [Item schema update]

November 4, 2014 Patch

  • Fixed the Engineer not playing the proper response rules while using the Golden Frying Pan.

Bugs

  • If the Strange counter on the golden pan is reset while playing, the Golden Frying Pan will appear to be a regular pan until a resupply locker is used or the player respawns.
    • This also occurs if a player picks up a Golden Frying Pan and the original owner disconnects from the server.
  • A rare lighting glitch can occur where the Australium statues appear white, similar to the ice sculptures left behind by a backstab with the Spy-cicle.

Trivia

  • Similarly to other Australium weapons, the Saxxy and the Golden Wrench, the Golden Frying Pan will broadcast a message to everyone currently in-game when either found or destroyed by a user. Upon being found, the message will read: "(Player) just received a Golden Frying Pan!", while upon deletion the message will say: "(Player) has destroyed their Golden Frying Pan!".
  • Kills with the Golden Frying Pan will trigger the same Engineer responses as those of the Golden Wrench and the Saxxy.
