The Smoke bomb is a scrapped grenade weapon that was to be used by the Spy. This grenade was an evolution of the Gas grenade. As the name suggests, this grenade most likely created a smoke screen when it exploded. Judging by the Spy's script files, smoke bomb was tested even after removing all other grenade types.[1] Like other grenades, this weapon was scrapped by Valve, citing game-flow, spamming, and balance concerns[citation needed]; however, after the release of the game, there were still attempts to add this weapon.
