The Team Fortress 2 Closed Beta is a version of regular TF2 that includes experimental Beta weapons and features that are privately tested by competitive players in 2009. These weapons are not necessarily destined to appear in future versions of TF2, nor does their presence reflect the consensus or desires of beta participants.
On December 2, 2010, an open beta version of the game was made available to all TF2 owners, with the intent of testing new weapon variants without affecting gameplay in the official game.

1 This version of the G.R.U. was officially added to the game during the Mann-Conomy Update, making it the first of these Beta weapons to be implemented.
2 The idea for this weapon was eventually carried on into the Gunslinger, which builds buildings (Only Sentry Guns in this case though) at a much faster rate. However, the P.D.Q.'s build rate was 1.5x faster, where the Gunslinger's build rate is 4x.
