The Saxxy is a melee weapon for all classes with limited availability. It is an Australium-plated statuette of Saxton Hale set into a small plinth.
This weapon acts identically to the default melee weapon of each class, sharing the same statistics and abilities. As such, Spies can perform backstabs and Engineers can upgrade their buildings. Its distinguishing feature, however, is that enemies killed by it will turn into motionless golden statues instead of ragdolls, similar to the Golden Wrench. This effect applies to jiggle bones which freeze in place.
The Saxxy was awarded to the winners of the First Annual Saxxy Awards in their respective categories. Winning entries created by more than one player resulted in Saxxys being bestowed to each contributer; the award was not limited to whoever uploaded the video.

Update history
May 5, 2011 Patch (Replay Update)
- [Undocumented] Materials for the Saxxy were added to the game.
- The Saxxy was added to the game.
- [Undocumented] One-handed melee animations have been added for most classes, currently for use with the Saxxy.
Bugs
- The Saxxy is allocated many unfitting class taunts and sound effects, such as those of the Demoman's Bottle, the Pyro's melee taunt, and the Scout's Bat.
- There are multiple issues concerning the Spy:
- Although the Saxxy can be used to backstab enemies, the Spy does not hold the Saxxy in the striking position when in a 180° radius of an enemy.
- Deaths caused by the Fencing taunt and backstab use their default kill icon.
- On a successful backstab where a custom animation plays, the enemy will perform the animation despite turning into solid gold.
- The Saxxy does not Cloak with the Spy during first person view.
- The Saxxy has the ability to deliver random critical hits, whereas the default Knife is unable to do so.
- The Heavy has severe animation problems and clipping issues when wielding the Saxxy.
- Voice responses related to melee weapons have no discretion when the Saxxy is equipped.
- Golden statues will still make the sound of flesh hitting the ground and will scream in pain upon death. Additionally, facial animations, as well as miscellaneous and slot items equipped, will not be frozen upon death.
- Gold statues will clip a small amount through the floor they are on, and do not react to stimuli, such as bullets and other players, among others.
- The Engineer holds the Saxxy with one hand in first person view, but wields it like a Wrench in third person view.
- After eating a Buffalo Steak Sandvich, a Heavy is able to switch from the Saxxy to his primary weapon.
- Custom viewmodel animations for the Saxxy do not have a critical hit swing animation, including backstabs, and just use the default swing for all hits.
Trivia
- In the event a Saxxy is deleted by the owner a message will be broadcast in-game to all players (as with the Golden Wrenches).
- The Saxxy is the first (and as of this writing, only) weapon that can be used by every class in the game.
