“ | HEAVY ENOUGH TO KILL A MAN WITH!
— Saxxy Awards page
|
” |
The Saxxy is a limited melee weapon for all classes. It is an Australium-plated statuette of Saxton Hale set into a small plinth.
This weapon acts identically to the default melee weapon of each class, sharing the same statistics and abilities. As such, Spies can perform backstabs and Engineers can upgrade their buildings. Its distinguishing feature, however, is that enemies killed by it will turn into motionless golden statues instead of ragdolls, a trait shared with the Golden Wrench. This gold effect applies to jiggle bones which freeze in place.
The Saxxy was awarded to the winners of the First Annual Saxxy Awards in their respective categories. Winning entries created by more than one player resulted in Saxxys being bestowed to each contributor; the award was not limited to the submitter.

Update history
May 5, 2011 Patch (Replay Update)
- [Undocumented] Materials for the Saxxy were added to the game.
- The Saxxy was added to the game.
- [Undocumented] One-handed melee animations have been added for most classes.
- [Undocumented] Fixed a bug allowing players to switch from the Saxxy to Heavy's primary weapon after eating a Buffalo Steak Sandvich.
Bugs
- The Saxxy has been allocated many unfitting class taunts and sound effects, such as those of the Demoman's Bottle, the Pyro's melee taunt, and the Scout's Bat.
- The Saxxy does not have distinguishing kill icons for backstabs, the Fencing taunt, or the Showdown taunt.
- The Saxxy does not Cloak with the Spy during first person view.
- Voice responses related to melee weapons have no discretion when the Saxxy is equipped.
- Miscellaneous and slot items equipped will not be frozen upon death by this weapon.
- In world view the Engineer holds the Saxxy with the same animation as his default Wrench, with both hands. However in client view he holds it with one hand like everyone else.
- Certain weapons such as the Chargin' Targe or the Showdown taunt create golden statues despite the Saxxy not technically being the killing weapon.
- If a backstab with this weapon triggers an animation on the target, they will appear to turn into gold, but the body behaves like a normal ragdoll.
- Many classes do not have dedicated critical hit swing animations for the Saxxy.
- The Saxxy does not turn enemies into Australium statues in Item Test.
Trivia
- As with a Golden Wrench, in the event a Saxxy is deleted by its owner, a message will be broadcast in-game to all players.
- The Sniper uses a 'new' one handed swing animation for the Saxxy, however it is really the default melee swing animation with the left hand removed.
