The Medic, on receiving gifts.

The Haunted Halloween Gift is a special pickup which is spawned during the Annual Scream Fortress Halloween Update in Mann Manor and Eyeaduct. It appears as a large, lime-green gift box with a bright orange ribbon. The player who collects the gift box on Mann Manor will receive a random Halloween Mask; upon collecting all nine, one can craft the Saxton Hale Mask. On Eyeaduct, the player who collects the gift box will receive a random halloween-themed costume piece instead. If the gift box was collected in the Underworld, the costume piece will be in Haunted quality.

Spawning

The Haunted Halloween Gift will spawn at one of many predetermined locations on both Mann Manor and Eyeaduct. Gift spawning is timed in 5 minute intervals, with the gift appearing 5 minutes into the round or 5 minutes after the last gift was claimed. An alert will be sent to all players when it appears in the map. The gift is translucent for the first few seconds after it spawns and cannot be picked up; this allows other players to move or kill anyone waiting for it to solidify. If more than one player is touching the gift when it solidifies then the recipient of the gift is randomly selected. Another alert will be sent to all players once the gift is collected along with a cheering sound clip and balloons.

During the 2010 Scream Fortress event, the Haunted Halloween Gift only spawned when the server contained a minimum of ten players. As of the 2011 Very Scary Halloween Special, 10 player connections to the server are required (meaning players who are on a team, in spectator, or actively joining the server) for the gift to drop; additionally, servers must be registered with TF2 Quickplay on Steam, to prevent cheating or farming to gain items. The total player count only includes actual Steam clients, not bots or the replay user.

Below are highlighted locations of positions that the Haunted Halloween Gift has been known to spawn in. On Eyeaduct, the gift can spawn on the map or in the Underworld, but it cannot spawn on Loot Island.
