像许多游戏一样,军团要塞2在其开发的过程中,也伴随着许许多多的更变。是否删减一个物品,都要先经过仔细地考虑,要弄清楚这么做是否会对游戏本身造成影响,例如,手雷在军团要塞经典版中出现过,并且尤其也引发了许多问题,所以在2代中被删除了。有时,一件物品被删除的原因相当简单 ——— 有更好的代替品,例如士兵的勋章;在有些时候,是由于游戏风格的改变而使得物品被删除。下表中的武器、物品以及其他一些更古老的玩意都是军团要塞2中被删除的物品,但大多数物品的相关文件都还是可以在游戏的.gcf文件夹中作为未使用物品找到。

手雷/榴弹
在军团要塞2中,手雷(榴弹)一词所指的是爆破手的榴弹发射器以及Loch-n-Load发射的弹药。瓶手道尿瓶以及疯狂牛奶算然用起来像是手雷,但是严格来说它们不是手雷,并且它们也不能像手雷一样滚动、弹跳。士兵在使用十字镐的嘲讽时也会用到手雷,但不是把它们扔出去。
虽然手雷在军团要塞经典版中发挥了巨大作用,但是在军团要塞2的早期测试时就被删除了。开发小组坚持要删除这个物品是由于其过于“泛滥”以及伴随有一些严重的漏洞,而且玩家们对其也表现出过于的依赖。
原先每个兵种(绝大多数)都拥有主要手雷与次要手雷两种武器,主要手雷为普通的破片手雷,而次要手雷通常是一些具有特殊能力的手雷。现今在server_i486.so
文件中依然有投掷手雷的代码。
目前有多种不同的手雷模型,其中一些为军团要塞经典版中更新版本,还有一些则为全新版本。扔手雷的声音文件依然能在游戏文件夹中找到。
一个无法获得的合成物品:"手雷标志"原先是存在的,但在早前的曼恩企业更新时被删除了。

This version of Major Crits is exactly the same as the gatebot version seen in Mannhattan except this version wears the Full Metal Drill Hat instead of the Gatebot Helmet. But there is an unused icon in the game files that is still functional but is never used. It is an icon of the Full Metal Drill Hat and is known as soldier_major_crits. The gatebot version of Major Crits uses Colonel Barrage's icon: soldier_barrage.
