Ovanlig kvalitet är en föremålskvalitet använd för att urskilja hattar som har en speciell partikeleffekt tillägnat dem. Den enda metoden som man kan skaffa sig en Ovanlig hatt på, är genom att låsa upp en Förrådslåda från Mann Co. med en Nyckel till Förrådslåda från Mann Co., eller via byte. Ovanliga versioner av hattarna som fanns inuti Festliga Vinterlådor kunde också fås genom att öppna dem med en Nyckel till Festlig Vinterlåda under den Australiska Julen.

Andra Ovanliga föremål

Två andra föremål med Ovanlig kvalitet introducerades tillsammans med Scream Fortress-uppdateringen: Hemsökt Metallskrot och Hästlöse Huvudlöse Horsemanns Halshuggare. Dessa har inga partikeleffekter, till skillnad från vanliga Ovanliga föremål. Bortsett från den Ovanliga kvaliteten, är Hästlöse Huvudlöse Horsemanns Halshuggare identisk med Eyelandern.
