The Engineer robot is a support unit, its arrival and destruction always being announced by the Administrator. It has 500 health, much higher than the standard human Engineer. Its main role is to build teleporter exits so the robots can spawn closer to the bomb. Only one Engineer robot can be on the field at a time.
The Engineer spawns by teleporting onto a suitable sentry nest location near the bomb, and immediately builds a teleporter exit and a Sentry Gun. Both take some time to build, and the Engineer will not hit them to speed up the process, but they automatically become level 3 upon completion. From this point onwards, groups of robots can spawn through the Engineer's teleporter, and they will be invulnerable for a short duration after appearing. As the bomb moves forward, the Engineer will attempt to move up with it, setting up new bases closer to the objective. Just as other robots have infinite ammo, Engineer robots never run out of metal – as soon as its building is destroyed, it will construct another. The Engineer robot will only attempt attacking players with the Wrench if he is supporting the bomb carrier by himself and if players are within range. When an Engineer's teleporter is active, an icon appears on the HUD, and it can easily be found with a blue pillar of light above it. The Administrator will announce if an Engineer is destroyed but still has an active teleporter on the field.
There are also two rarer varieties of Engineer robot, both of which have about half the health of the standard variety. One type spawns normally instead of teleporting in, but still constructs a teleporter for the other robots to spawn at. The other type also spawns normally, but does not build Teleporters at all, instead only constructing a Sentry Gun.
Bugs
- Whenever an Engineer robot and any number of Spy robots are on the field, the Engineer will repeat "Spy down" until it or the Spies are destroyed.
- On the Disintegration mission for Decoy, the Engineer robot's arrival isn't notified at all to the players.
- When crouched and using their Wrench or Shotgun, Engineer robots do not have the proper animations.
- If the robots win the round, the Engineer Robot will use it's Shotgun to try to attack the Defenders, but it will do no damage.
Trivia
- The Engineer Robot has a metal plate on its back that reads エンジニア, which is read as "Engineer" in Japanese.
- The Engineer Robot shares most of the animations the Human Engineer has.
