The Bear trap was intended to be a grenade weapon in Team Fortress 2. Its exact function is unknown, although it has been speculated that it may have been intended to be the equivalent of the Scout's Caltrop weapon from Team Fortress Classic which, if stepped on, would reduce the movement speed of opposing players.
