The Sniper's main role on the battlefield is to pick off important enemy targets from afar using his Sniper Rifle and its ability to deal guaranteed Critical hits with a headshot (with some exceptions). He is effective at long range, but weakens with proximity, where he is forced to use his Submachine Gun or his Kukri. As a result, the Sniper tends to perch on higher grounds or in hard-to-see places, where he can easily pin down enemies at chokepoints. |
− | Although he is typically known for instantaneously killing enemies at a distance, the Sniper can use the Huntsman to get closer to the enemy. + | * The Sniper keeps a bobblehead of the Team Fortress Classic Civilian on the dashboard of his van. | ||

+ | * The Sniper's world model changes depending on your primary weapon (arrows on the back with the Huntsman, and tranquilizers are in the front right pocket in his shirt instead of bullets when equipped with the Sydney Sleeper). | ||
+ | * The Sniper exhibits an almost bipolar behavior, if he were to dominate two opponents in rather quick succession, he may harshly insult one and quietly apologize to the other victim. | ||
+ | * The Sniper's last name is Mundy, as seen as in Meet the Director. | ||
+ | * The Sniper has two versions of many of his lines: one that is spoken quietly to himself while scoped in with the Sniper Rifle, and the other screamed loudly after killing an opponent. | ||

Meet the Sniper | |
“ | Snipin's a good job, mate! It's challengin' work, outta doors. I guarantee you'll not go hungry. 'Cause at the end of the day, long as there's two people left on the planet, someone is gonna want someone dead.
— The Sniper
|
” |
Hailing from the lost country of New Zealand and raised in the unforgiving outback of Australia, the Sniper is a tough and ready crack shot mercenary.
Although he is typically known for instantaneously killing enemies at a distance, the Sniper can use the Huntsman to get closer to the enemy. Additionally, the Sydney Sleeper and the mysterious contents of Jarate allow him to take on a support role by causing enemies to take Mini-Crits.
The Sniper is voiced by John Patrick Lowrie.

Basic strategy
- The longer you spend zoomed in using the scope, the more damage the shot will inflict due to it being charged. You will know if the sniper rifle shot is fully charged by the bars to the right of the crosshair inside the scope or a sound is played if you have enabled it.
- Aim for the head to inflict critical damage.
- Zoom in with the sniper rifle by hitting MOUSE2.
- Use your secondary slot Submachine Gun to deal with nearby enemies.
- When you use Jarate on an enemy, it will make every shot dealt to them by friendly players a mini-crit. Jarate is also useful for revealing cloaked enemy Spies. Because it takes a large amount of time to regenerate, try not to waste it.

Taunt Attack
Associated items | Description | Kill Icon | |
---|---|---|---|
Main article: Arrow Stab
The Sniper removes the arrow from his bow, twirls it behind him, then stabs it forward fiercely while quickly muttering menacingly: "Stab, stab, stab". The enemy is stunned momentarily, until the Sniper then brings the arrow back to his bow again, killing the enemy. The taunt may also kill enemies behind the Sniper when he withdraws the arrow. If the Sniper is killed while the enemy is stunned, the taunt will not inflict any damage. |

Bugs
- The Sniper's primary weapons do not produce reload sounds from the perspective of other players.
- During the Sniper's melee taunt where he doffs his hat, there is a positioning issue with some cosmetic items on the Sniper's head.
Trivia
- In his fight scene with the Spy in Meet the Spy, the Spy makes a cut from the left side of the Sniper's cheek to his nose with his Knife. The scars were added to the Sniper's in-game model with the Sniper vs. Spy Update.
- Likewise, the exposure of the top of the Sniper's head during his weapon taunt references the cut that the Spy makes to the back of the Sniper's head in the same movie.
- The Sniper's portrayed parents are, in fact, his adopted parents. Instead, his biological father and mother, New Zealanders Bill-Bel and Lar-Nah, had accidentally crashed Sniper via rocket ship into Australia whilst fighting for the same rocket ship.
- The Sniper's voice actor, John Patrick Lowrie, is married to Ellen McLain who voices the Administrator, as well as GLaDOS from the Portal series and Half Life 2's Combine Overwatch Voice. Lowrie also voices all of the male citizens in Half Life 2.
- Just like the rest of the classes, the Sniper makes an appearance in Saints Row: The Third in the form of a wearable head mask.
- The first BLU team Sniper resembled Davy Crockett.
- The Sniper's sunglasses, hair and hat make an appearance in Worms: Reloaded as one of the hats selectable for the players' worms.
- The Sniper class from Monday Night Combat received the Sniper's regular stock hat, under the name "Mental Illness", during a cross promotion with Team Fortress 2. The name of the item is a reference to Meet the Sniper during the Sniper's conversation with his dad explaining that being an assassin (as he claims to be) is a job, while being a crazed gunman (as his dad thinks he is) is mental sickness.
- The Sniper can play the Tenor Saxophone, as seen in Expiration Date.
- In the original concept for the Sniper, he was to wield a Fish whacker, but was later replaced with the Kukri.
- The Sniper's SMG was originally intended to be the Scout's primary weapon, as seen in early posters, but was scrapped later in development. A file called
tf_weapon_smg_scout
still exists in the game files.- This SMG can be seen in the Team Fortress 2 - Teaser.
- Although Sniper is always portrayed with a glove only on his left hand, in first-person view, he appears to be wearing gloves on both hands.
