Citizen Pain
Civilian Grade Minigun (Field-Tested)

Ha ha ha ha! No.
Saxton Hale, in response to Miss Pauling when asked about new weapons for the mercenaries.

Added in the Gun Mettle Update, Decorated weapons are unique items with a skin, an exterior quality, a grade factor, and possible Strange counter and/or Unusual effect.

The Decorated quality is an item quality assigned to weapons which are obtained from submitting completed contracts, or opening weapon cases obtained from submitting completed contracts. This quality includes 6 levels of rarity, referred to as Grades : Civilian, Freelance, Mercenary, Commando, Assassin, and Elite. It also has an exterior quality: Factory-New, Minimal Wear, Field-Tested, Well-Worn, and Battle-Scarred. The exterior quality decreases from the perfect Factory-New, to the extremely worn Battle-Scarred. When equipping a weapon of this quality, the player can press the inspect key (Default key: F) to play an interruptible animation which examines the weapon from multiple angles, usually two (only visible in First Person). Decorated weapons are purely cosmetic, and do not affect gameplay whatsoever.

Decorated weapons unboxed from weapon cases have a chance to be Strange, a rarer chance to be Unusual, and an extremely rare chance to be both. The Strange variant adds a clock to the side of the weapon, which count kills (or ÜberCharges in case of the Medi Gun). The Unusual variant adds a particle effect to the weapon, typically at the end of, or on the barrel of the weapon. When the item is both Strange and Unusual, both the clock and visual effects are shown.

When mouse-hovering over a Decorated weapon in the Inventory, a detailed window will appear showing a rotating model of the weapon, its specific details such as grade and exerior wear, and a list of the collection it is included in (checking off other weapons in the collection that are also owned). Choosing to Inspect the weapon will open a larger window of the weapon model which may be manually rotated.

The decorations and exterior qualities do not appear when running the game with dxlevel -80 or dxlevel -81. Instead of showing the decorations, they only appear as their stock counterpart. When running the game in these DirectX levels, the descriptions of Decorated weapons change, adding the extra line: "You are in DirectX 8, decorated weapons are incompatible and show as stock". Upon checkout at the Mann Co. Store, having a Gun Mettle Campaign Pass in the cart will cause the game to show a message warning the player that Decorated weapons do not work on DirectX 8.

In-game, there are multiple hexadecimal quality colors for Decorated weapons, all dependent on the grade of said weapons. On the Steam Community Market, regardless of grade, the hexadecimal color code for Decorated weapons is #FAFAFA.

Gun Mettle Collections

All classes have at minimum one weapon per collection. Some classes have multiple weapons per collection.

The Teufort Collection

The Teufort Collection is one of two weapon skin collections available from completing Gun Mettle contracts. It is collection of weapon skins based on the various textures found in 2Fort, such as wooden planks, metal plate, and dirt ground.

The Craftsmann Collection

The Craftsmann Collection is the second weapon skin collection available from completing Gun Mettle contracts. It is a collection of skins focusing on a DIY-like project, having most guns painted in a way that makes them seem made from household materials and/or fabrics. The team color variants mostly apply to materials with a plaid pattern.

The Concealed Killer Collection

The Concealed Killer Collection is one of two weapon skin collections only available through opening weapon cases obtained during the Gun Mettle Campaign. To obtain a weapon with this skin, players must unbox a Concealed Killer Weapons Case. This collection focuses on military-style camouflage skins of varying colors.

The Powerhouse Collection

The Powerhouse Collection is the second weapon skin collection only available though Gun Mettle Campaign weapon cases. To obtain a weapon with this skin, players must open a Powerhouse Weapons Case. The primary focus of this collection is bright patterns, resembling electricity and power station logos.

Weapon Grades

Decorated weapons come in six grades. They do not affect gameplay whatsoever, and only serve as a cosmetic feature.

Each grade has its own hexadecimal color, which starts at a light blue and ends at a dark red.

Color Name Example
#B0C3D9 Civilian Grade Scattergun
#5E98D9 Freelance Grade Stickybomb Launcher
#4B69FF Mercenary Grade Minigun
#8847FF Commando Grade Flame Thrower
#D32CE6 Assassin Grade Sniper Rifle
#EB4B4B Elite Grade Rocket Launcher

Weapon unboxed from the Concealed Killer and Powerhouse Weapons Cases only come in Mercenary grade and higher, while weapons from the Teufort and Craftsman collections only come in Commando grade and lower. It should also be noted that all exterior qualities can apply to any grade, so it is possible to have a Battle-Scarred Elite grade weapon and Factory-New Civilian grade weapon.

Weapon grades only apply to decorated weapons, and are not applied to other item or quality types.

Unusual Effects

Decorated weapons of the Unusual variant will have a particle effect attached to the end of the barrel. Some Unusual effects can also travel down the whole length of the barrel.
