— The Demoman
|
” |
The Splendid Screen is a secondary weapon for the Demoman. It is an iron shield with four knobs in the cardinal directions, and a large boss in the middle. With its three additional styles, the Splendid Screen can bear a spike, an arrow, or both embedded in its face.
Compared to the Chargin' Targe, this weapon provides 60% less fire resistance, and 62.5% less explosive resistance. As such it is only capable of providing additional 20% and 15% resistances to the Demoman respectively. However, the Splendid Screen's charge ability is more potent; there is no minimum distance required to deliver damage with a shield bash, and a successful charge bash delivers 70% more damage.
Contents
Damage
Alternate fire initiates a charge attack, which deals damage on its own, or may be used in conjunction with another weapon.
- Charge Damage: 85 (if shield connects with enemy) + 17 per head (up to 5 heads).
- The shield damage is affected by weapon damage spread, it is not a constant number.
- Charge Speed: 750 Hammer units/sec (Approximately 2.5 times faster than 'Base' Speed).
- Charge Speed: 637.5 Hammer units/sec with Scotsman's Skullcutter equipped (Approximately 2.1 times faster than 'Base' Speed).
Function times
- Charge Interval: 12 seconds
- Charge Interval: 6 seconds with the Persian Persuader equipped
Times are approximate and determined by community testing.

Styles
The Splendid Screen's appearance can differ through the use of styles. This, however, has no bearing on the kill icon. The style shows up in both the world and client view.

June 29, 2011

Bugs
- If attempting to view a Replay in which a player uses the Splendid Screen, the replay editor will not start and will give an error, stating
GetDynamicBaseline: FindStringIndex(238-CTFWearableDemoShield)
has failed. - Due to how the shield bash is programmed, it is possible to deal full critical damage with a melee without charging the required distance. Attacking right after a shield bash will ensure a critical hit.
- If a player uses the melee weapon, and then in mid swing uses the charge, the player won't charge, but there will still be the sound effect and the Charge Meter will still be depleted.
Trivia
- This weapon is the first to have different styles
