This article is about the Demoman's stock melee weapon. For other bottles, see Bottle (disambiguation).
Ay, me bottle o' scrumpy!
The Demoman

The Bottle is the default melee weapon for the Demoman. It is a brown glass bottle of scrumpy marked with 'XXX' on the label and a year suggesting it was made in 1808.

The Bottle's critical hit animation is a swift downward swing.

Unused content

  • In the VPK, there exists an unused texture for the beta BLU bottle listed as v_bottle_blue. There is also a version of the model where the Bottle is broken, as well as hit sounds for it.
  • Originally, the Bottle would break on hit if the player dealt a critical hit or hit a surface. This was reverted when Valve updated all in-game models to use the c_model system instead of the v_model system, which helped optimize memory usage.

Trivia

  • Scrumpy is a type of strong cider made in the West Country of England. Liquor is usually stored in dark-colored bottles as this stops sunlight from spoiling the contents.
  • The 'XXX' logo refers to how alcohol is commonly portrayed in cartoons to avoid copyright infringement. It is also a reference to the traditional way of rating alcohol strength, 3 X's being the strongest.
  • The bucket icons for the Bottle are team-specific, showing that there were RED and BLU versions of the Bottle.
  • Despite being empty, the Bottle makes a "sloshing" sound when the Demoman drinks from it during its taunt. Additionally, the Demoman still wipes his lips and burps after "drinking".
  • In Grave Matters, an advertisement for Blu Streak and Bonk! Atomic Punch can be seen.
  • The year on the bottle suggests that the scrumpy is over 160 years old.
