While boxing gloves were made to cushion your well-placed uppercuts, steel fists were made to beat the snot out of your enemies' pineal glands. "What are pineal glands?", you might ask! We at Mann Co have no idea ourselves, but what we do know is that these babies are made of freaking steel!
— Fancy Vs. Nasty update description

The Fists of Steel, commonly abbreviated to FoS, are melee weapons for the Heavy. They appear as a pair of large robotic gauntlets, appropriately team-colored, that encase the Heavy's hands.

These weapons reduce damage from all sources that are not melee-based, be they hitscan or projectile, by 60%. As a downside, all melee attacks against the Heavy will deliver double damage. These effects only apply when the player has the gauntlets out.

The weapon was originally created for the Fancy vs. Nasty Update as a replacement for the Killing Gloves of Boxing and has since been officially added to the game.

Bugs

  • In world view, parts of the Heavy's hands clip outside of the Fists of Steel. This is more noticeable during humiliation.
  • In first-person view, the Heavy's left wrist clips through the Fists of Steel.
  • When drawn, the weapon emits the Killing Gloves of Boxings' draw sound.
  • Damage from most taunt attacks are reduced by the Fists of Steel as if they were ranged attacks. In fact, only the Decapitation, Dischord, and Fencing taunt attacks are not treated this way.
  • As the Ullapool Caber hits the enemy twice (with melee and explosion damage), it is possible to survive a critical hit with the weapon.
  • The Heavy's hands disappear sometimes on death or while performing this weapons taunt whilst switching weapon.
  • Unlike most other melee weapons, the Fists of Steel do not drop a collectible weapon on death.

Trivia

  • An unused Heavy line for unlocking a new weapon references 'Fists of Steel'.
  • The original Fists of Steel also came with a unique sound set, making the fists seem more robotic. In the game, however, they retain the same sounds as the Killing Gloves of Boxing when being equipped but the punches have a custom metallic sound.
  • The Fancy vs. Nasty Update description for the Fists of Steel refers to Template:W, a small gland in the brain that excretes melotonin. Melotonin affects rhythmic cycles in humans, such as sleep patterns.
  • The Fists of Steel do not uncurl from their clenched position, whereas the Killing Gloves of Boxing and Gloves of Running Urgently have models that appear as if the Heavy is extending his fingers, as seen in humilation stances.
