La mise à jour Polycount est un concours organisé par Valve et la communauté de modeleurs, Polycount, l'objectif est de créer de nouvelles armes qui seront introduites plus tard dans le jeu. Les résultats devaient être annoncés le 12 juillet mais ont été reportés au 15 juillet, et les objets ont été rajoutés durant la mise à jour Mann-Conomy.
En addition de ces 5 nouveaux packs, Valve a confirmé que plusieurs autres packs étaient d'assez bonne qualité et seront ajoutés plus tard dans le jeu. Selon PC gamer, un 6ème ensemble devait être inclut, ainsi qu'un nouveau mode de jeu en bonus. Ils furent coupés à cause de contraintes de temps, et ajoutés plus tard lors de la Mise à Jour du Noël Australien, accompagné de deux autres ensembles. Il fût aussi mentionné sur le blog que Valve travaillait sur une nouvelle carte d'entrainement, similaire à la carte d'entrainement du Soldier publiée durant la Mise à Jour Mac, mais ce n'est jamais arrivé.
Tous ceux ayant participé au concours, ou y ayant aidé recevront un Badge Polycount disponible pour chaque classe. Une liste des possesseurs du Badge Polycount peut être trouvée ici.
Les cinq ensembles Polycount sont les cinq premiers ensemble d'Objet. Porter tous les objets de l'ensemble (incluant le chapeau) confère un bonus. Les ensembles ajoutés lors du Noël Australien, d'un autre coté, ne requièrent pas le chapeau pour obtenir le bonus.
