The Splendid Screen is a community-created secondary weapon for the Demoman. It is a battered iron shield spattered with blood, with four bosses in the cardinal directions and a larger boss in the middle.
Like the Chargin' Targe, the Splendid Screen allows the Demoman to perform a Charging maneuver for 1.5 seconds (or 2 seconds if equipped with the Claidheamh Mòr), with benefits including a temporary boost of speed (fixed in a mostly straight line), shield bash and melee damage boosts which scale by distance, and the immediate removal of afterburn, bleeding, Mad Milk and Jarate. However, the Splendid Screen's charge ability is more potent than the Chargin' Targe's; a successful charge bash delivers 70% more damage, and its charge meter refills 50% faster, requiring only 8 seconds before the user can charge again. Heads gathered by the Eyelander, Horseless Headless Horsemann's Headtaker or Nessie's Nine Iron will increase the damage of the bash, at a maximum of 5 heads; however, the Splendid Screen gains 8.5 damage for every head gained, instead of 5 damage per head like the Chargin' Targe.
As a downside, the Splendid Screen only offers both +20% fire and explosive resistance, compared to the Targe's +50% fire resistance and +30% explosive resistance.
This item has four different styles. These styles, titled "Classic", "Spike", "Arrow", and "Spike and Arrow", allow the Splendid Screen to bear a spike, an arrow, neither, or both, embedded in its face.
