Team Fortress 2 Bèta is een aparte bètaversie van het spel, die gratis ter beschikking staat van premium spelers. De bèta werd gereleaset op 2 december 2010, de tweede periode van de publieke bètatest; de eerste vond plaats voor de officiële release van het spel. De huidige bèta wordt gebruikt voor, maar is niet beperkt tot:
- Het testen en afstemmen van verschillende klasse-, voorwerp- en wapenaanpassingen.
- Het testen van mapaanpassingen en -varianten.
- Het uitvoeren van experimenten over het hele spel op een hoger niveau (zoals het verdubbelen van een spelers gezondheid).
- Het testen van nieuwe technologie, zonder het spel te breken.
Nieuwe spelers ontvangen alle wapens die op dit moment getest worden, enkele promotionele voorwerpen waarop hun Steam accounnt recht heeft, en andere voorwerpen die nu en dan uitgedeeld worden om getest te worden. Het voorwerp vind systeem en ontwerpen zijn momenteel ingeschakeld, maar ruilen en de Mann Co. Winkel zijn niet beschikbaar. Team Fortress 2 Bèta past dezelfde limiet toe op het aantal gevonden voorwerpen per week als de normale versie van Team Fortress 2.
De huidige Team Fortress 2 Bèta verschilt van de eerste gereleasete bèta (voor alle spelers die het spel vooruit bestelden in 2007), en lijkt daarentegen meer op de gesloten bèta van 2009.

Andere veranderingen
- De openbare IP wordt nu getoond in de console wanneer een lokale server gecreëerd wordt, en de output voor het exec-commando is veranderd.
- Een optie is toegevoegd voor toegewijde servers om Steam-gebruikerblokkering te forceren. Dit is een optie die een speler of Steam Community in staat stelt te voorkomen dat spelers die ze geblokkeerd hebben toch deelnemen aan hun spel. [1][2]
- Een pipe overflow-probleem voor servers die op FreeBSD draaien is opgelost.
