Shooting Star publicity blurb

The Shooting Star is a community-created primary weapon for the Sniper. It is a sniper rifle made from a jury-rigged laser, equipped with a telescopic sight with two fins atop it, a laser sight directly underneath that, and a team-colored button on each side and the back. A parabolic antenna protrudes from the barrel of the rifle with a small tube of team-colored liquid at the end of the barrel. The rifle is constructed from grayish-green metal and covered in a cream material at the stock and body of the rifle.

This rifle also has a unique sound effect when fired while scoped in.

Enemies killed by the Shooting Star suffer a distinctive death by incineration, wherein they disintegrate into smoldering orange ash that quickly fades away.

This weapon functions identically to the Machina.

The Shooting Star was contributed to the Steam Workshop.

October 6, 2015 Patch (Invasion Community Update)

  • The Shooting Star was added to the game.

Bugs

  • The Killstreak sheens for the Shooting Star travel upwards towards the scope of the weapon instead of towards the front like standard weapons.
  • The Shooting Star lacks the description "Team Colored Weapon", and their BLU team variants cannot be viewed in the backpack unless playing on BLU team.

Trivia

  • A shooting star is the visible path left behind a meteoroid as it enters Earth's atmosphere and becomes a meteor. It also points to the Sniper's profession as an assassin.
  • When the Invasion Update first launched, the Shooting Star and the Giger Counter were able to be crafted by use of tokens. This was later patched.
