The Pyro Update is a patch for the Pyro that was released on June 19, 2008. The Pyro was the second class that was provided with a major content pack. The update also included the first community-made maps that were added to the game, Fastlane and Turbine. Meet the Sniper was released alongside the update, although the video was listed at the bottom of the page rather than as a major part of the patch, similar to the previously released Gold Rush Update. The update page also featured a link leading to the Valve Developer Wiki, which detailed the design of Team Fortress 2's maps.
The release of the Pyro Update also heralded the arrival of the first taunt kill, the Pyro's Hadouken taunt, which instantly kills enemies within range. The update also added the compression blast to the original Flamethrower, something that soon became a core technique of the Pyro's skill set.

Update Progress
The Pyro Update was the first update released by Valve that utilized the technique of slowly revealing content. A store promotional message released 13 days before the update first hinted at the coming changes, along with Meet the Sniper. The page contained a link leading to the concept art for the Axtinguisher.
Upon the release of Meet the Sniper, the Flare Gun was teased in the final frames of the video as the Sniper killed a Pyro wielding the weapon. Soon after, all three weapons were revealed in their entirety and, on the following day, the 35 achievements were revealed.
Other Additions
- Classes:
- Added 35 new Pyro achievements.

- Added custom death icons for unlockable weapons.
