Since the June 11, 2014 Patch, Bread is an object that occasionally flies from Teleporter Exits when players arrive. Several seconds after spawning, the bread prop disappears. The chance for bread to spawn is 1/20 when most players exit, but 1/3 when Soldiers exit. Nine different models of Bread are seen.

Teleporter Bread first appeared as a mysterious tease for players, which was eventually seen to be a promotion for the Love & War Update. Soldier's antics in the Update's media suggests a reason why his teleportations spawn more Bread than others.

  • June 3, 2013 : Bread was also shown on the Adult Swim Extravaganza blog post. In the top right corner directly above the Scout, a pair of baguettes are visible.
  • June 11, 2014 Patch: Bread began spawning from Teleporter exits. Because players observed nine different models characteristic of the cultural origins of the nine Mercenaries, there was speculation that each model represented a player class.

Released on June 17th, 2014, the Love & War Update answered the Bread tease:

Furthermore, leaks have shown that there are several .dmx files for viewmodel animations associated with each type of bread, as well as Bread monster animations (even for classes without a Bread monster weapon)[1]. Additionally, in the filepath for weapons there are several backpack icons for each type of bread, excluding the shortbread[2], indicating these were likely going to be used as weapons.
