+ | == Toasty Trenchcoat page == | ||
+ | |||
+ | I have Shadowman's permission to edit the Toasty Trenchcoat sandbox page. He specifically requested my help with it and asked me to make the all the images for it. Here's a screenshot for proof. I can ask him to add AllowedEditors at some point but I'm pretty sure he's offline at the moment. | ||
+ | |||
+ | With that being said I have a request for you. Painted variants full is missing some paramaters from the regular Painted variants template. To be able to upload the Paint images to that page with the proper User image names I think it will need to have the override-prefix parameter. Would you please take a look at Painted variants full and see if you could update it to have the missing parameters? You're a lot better with template stuff and I don't want to accidentally break it. Thanks. + | |||
+ | :Attach that screenshot to the undo reason, and then you can add AllowedEditors yourself. Also note that these painted variants should be hosted on User space. I've added the parameter to the template.<br> <span style="color:green;font-family:TF2 Build;">s</span> <font color="DB9C1F">GrampaSwood</font> (<font color="DB9C1F">talk</font>) (<font color="DB9C1F">contribs</font>) 11:14, 15 August 2024 (UTC) | ||
+ | |||
+ | :: Thanks for doing that, I appreciate it. It was my intention to have them be in userspace. I started uploading the paint images but didn't realize override-prefix wasn't working. I stopped once I noticed. Now that override-prefix is fixed the rest will be in userspace. My mistake. I already moved the few files that were named incorrectly. + | == Re: Template:Maps Nav order for Terror/Chilly == | ||
+ | |||
+ | Hi- mind if I ask how the order on that template should be applied to Terror and Chilly, as they appear to be the only maps to be ordered in Halloween (Normal) vs Normal (Halloween)? You noted that "These are based on which came first." and "Atom Smash is not the original Monster Bash because it came after that map", despite Atom Smash being listed first. The same applies to Hacksaw/Bonesaw and Sinshine/Sunshine, where the Halloween variants were added prior to the normal version. Padgriffin (talk) 04:30, 16 August 2024 (UTC) | ||
+ | |||
+ | :The order should be based on which map was created first, not the in-game releases. Atom Smash was created after Monster Bash was created, I don't believe this is the case for the other maps. Most maps follow Original (Halloween) simply because that's the order of creation.<br> <span style="color:green;font-family:TF2 Build;">s</span> <font color="DB9C1F">GrampaSwood</font> (<font color="DB9C1F">talk</font>) (<font color="DB9C1F">contribs</font>) 04:59, 16 August 2024 (UTC) | ||
+ | |||
+ | ::Ah, that would make some sense- though Atom Smash is currently listed first, so we might want to fix that inconsistency. I feel following a consistent format may work better though, as the order of creation isn't really relevant to the casual reader. + | |||
+ | Hello GrampaSwood, | ||
+ | i do not object to any of the accusations of the Article "Zombie Riot" not meeting the mentioned community topic notability guidelines. I think i cannot add anything that would make the article meet those guidelines. If that is a reason to delete said page, do it, although it will make me a little bit unappreciating - I think its a cool gamemode and the official tf2 wiki is the place where information about these community-made modes should be looked for. | ||
+ | Also if you are going to delete it, i must inform you that i made a few mentions to it on other pages (all of them should be linked, so you'll see them with the "What links here" feature). Those mentions don't break any rules, right? | ||

+ | == Cozy Camper's Weapon Demonstration Video == | ||
+ | |||
+ | Hi GrampaSwood, I was watching the weapon demonstration video for the Cozy Camper and I noticed that about 20 seconds in, it shows the flinch difference through a Pyro burning the player. However, this video was uploaded back in October 2016, meaning that it shows the pre-Jungle Inferno Update version of afterburn, where a Pyro could hit you with one flame particle and you'd be alight for 10 seconds, taking 6 damage per second. Since the update, a single flame will only cause 3 seconds of afterburn, at 8 damage per second. I was wondering if the video should be redone, potentially with a Flare Gun (for 7.5 seconds of afterburn), as to also accurately portray the health regenerated during the duration the attack? | ||

+ | == Let's discuss that Hightower edit == | ||
+ | |||
+ | Hello! I noticed you very quickly reverted my edit to the Hightower page noting that the map was often used as a makeshift team deathmatch map, under the rationale that community perception of a map is not noted. I'm interested in discussing it further, though, rather than discarding it immediately. | ||
+ | |||
+ | I had looked at Team Fortress Wiki:Policies beforehand, and hadn't seen any policy that explicitly advised against additions of that sort (although maybe there is a policy on another page that I didn't see); and either way, I don't think that my edit falls under the category of "community perception of a map" – it intentionally did not try and comment on player opinions (such as the "no-cap rule"), instead only observing that e.g. players usually don't attempt to push the cart (although perhaps saying that "it is often used by players as..." might need to be revised). I also believe that it's noteworthy enough to be included, as it seems to be what Hightower is best known for (and I had provided a reference to attempt to establish that it's notable, although I couldn't find anything better than SoundSmith's video on it). | ||

I also think Hightower is a different case from 2Fort/Powerhouse/etc. as the phenomenon virtually always has an influence on the map – whereas games of 2Fort and etc. are rather seldom influenced; some players relax instead of trying to cap, but it's not often recognized as a "rule", and I think it's probably mostly players simply favoring defending over offense as their contribution to the team (plus, the intel is picked up much more often than the Hightower cart is pushed). Of course, any suggestions for modifications to the phrasing are welcome. 23:52, 9 November 2024 (UTC) | ||

Examples of this include the Scout gaining new voice lines after being compared to Vince Offer, the Spycrab being added as a taunt and being referenced in The Naked and the Dead, and Saxton Hale becoming an important character in the comics and becoming playable in a game mode centered on him. Players choosing Hightower to play a specific playstyle has not affected the game in any official way; it has not prompted Valve to change anything in the map, create a new game mode so people can play this playstyle there and let others do the objective, reference Hightower in any sort of comic, movie, or other sort of media, or anything like that. - BrazilianNut (talk) 06:33, 10 November 2024 (UTC) | ||

+ | == Quotation on cosmetic pages. == | ||
+ | |||
+ | I wanted to discuss further about the nature of having (or not) quotations on the pages of cosmetics (specifically in reference to the recent edits to the Whoopee Cap page.) I understand that the style guide mentions that having one is not a requirement for a complete page. Despite this, almost all cosmetic pages do have one, even when insignifigant to the overall page or otherwise trivial. To further this point, there are pages in which general, vague quotes are used that could describe any cosmetic (such as the Pomade Prince, Forest Footwear, or the Motley Sleeves). | ||
+ | |||
+ | I am open to hearing what specifically should be used as a quote for the Whoopee Cap page that would fit within the criteria. Submackeen gunner (talk) 19:57, 15 November 2024 (UTC) | ||

+ | :If you can find any fitting one for the cosmetic, that one is preferred, but anything that is as generic as "Look at me!" or "Sweet!" to denote that he is happy with his new cosmetic item is an unsuitable one. The only exception to this are the new gun lines for Heavy, as they are contextually triggered for those. You can suggest a bunch of new ones if you're unsure, but right now it's just forcing a quote on the article because others have one. If the Workshop description fits better that would be a good alternative, but an article with a bad quote is worse than an article with no quote. I've removed the quotes from all the aforementioned articles for the same reason, quotes being wrong on one article don't excuse others. | ||

In addition, there are lines in which Scout refers to getting on the cap, which could be recontextualized as pins being placed onto the hat itself, such as and . Sorry about my first edition
Hi! Sorry for the first edition of Mercenary Park (cosmetic item) on the Baseball cap/fi page.
I come to the wiki to ask to staff about the 3D module you use in the wiki, as the user User:Shahar told me that the module was originally from this wiki; however, when I tried to contact, I saw that I had to follow a series of steps before, and as I hardly know the saga I went to edit broken images. Then, I discovered that there were more pages in different languages and, seeing that you reversed my change, I did it correctly afterwards.
Staff to staff, sorry for the first inconvenience, I know it's frustrating to revert the changes and edit them again. I wish the best for your wiki, and I see that you have it very well structured and with hardly any bugs, congratulations! A22PG (talk) 16:31, 2 January 2024 (UTC)
- Don't worry about it, I've made similar mistakes a few times in the past mostly with Bonesaw (map) and Brimstone (map) linking to Bonesaw and Brimstone respectively. It's better that you made the edit and bring the mistake to someone's attention than to not have made the edit and have the mistake be there until someone else found it.
I also really don't mind reverting changes and editing them again.

I have a question
Hello Grampa Swood!
I recently registered on wiki, but already made a couple of changes (60+ articles edited)
And i just want to know 2 things: 1) How much edits user must do to be nominated for Wiki-cap 2) And can any person ask somebody to nominate them? I hope i will do much more changes and maybe one day get nominated and just want to know more about it. P.S. i bad in english, if there any mistakes, sorry XD TSTH 17:46, 9 January 2024 (UTC)
- 1. There is no edit requirement for it, but that also does not mean 10 edits will grant the Cap.
- 2. Users should only nominate others if they think they truly deserve it. That being said, asking a friend of yours to nominate you will result in the nomination being removed.
- Translators are able to nominate themselves, but this is only if they meet the requirements to do so.

With the Boxes
Hey, I am definitely going to need your help with the boxes part, whenever I attempt to add this in below: /Template:Border | image = Main menu soldier.png | image-size = 20px | title = General info | content = Hallo, und Willkommen this is my TF2 Wiki Page! I am an American guy living in the West. I am a sort of Medic Main, though I do play other classes a lot, I enjoy helping my teammates, so I like Medic. And I also like German and am learning it, so I like the German guy. I also enjoy playing Sniper, though most of the time when I am playing Sniper, I use the SMG most of the time. I have a steam account as well. I also play games other than TF2, such as Team Fortress Classic, Fortress Forever, w:Stellaris, w:Europa Universalis IV, w:Crusader Kings II, w:Deltarune (yes, I do play this mix of games) and many others. It always comes up with User:Tenth class gaming/Template:Border (I did remove the {} in order for it to show.) Do you know how to fix this? Issue i'm facing
Hello Gramps, I'm currently starting to make edits for AR pages(I'm aware that it's deprecated) but meh why not, ok so my issue is that I can't change some elements and names in edit page, it's visible in the original page but wherever i look in edit mode, I can't change it, looking forward to hear your reply.

- It's likely a template that you're looking for? Anything in curly brackets

is a template. To find these, simply take the text in the brackets and put it after "wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Template:". For example,Painted variants
would be on wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Template:Painted variants.

I wonder if this template I just made would be useful
Hello. I made UberCharge Cart template, and I want to know if it would be useful.
These are couple reasons I made this:
- The information on Payload about being able to/not to push/block the cart while ubercharged by different mediguns is wrong, so I needed to fix it.
- It CAN be described all in texts, but I thought it would take up unnecessarily large amount of space, but this template could save time and space at the same time for me and others.
Since I don't use IRC channel, and because I don't know any other staffs/mods, I want to know what your/others opinions are about the template, if it's unnecessary, and if there can be anything else to improve it.
Nihil ( Talk | Contributions ) 15:56, 12 February 2024 (UTC)
- Also, describing all the informations in texts would be harder to see it by glance (which means it would need a lot more effort to read all texts) and understand it than describing all of them with the template.
- "Intuition" is a key-word, I guess. I really hope to see any feedback from you and others.
- Nihil ( Talk | Contributions ) 16:03, 12 February 2024 (UTC)
- Seems good, but I'll make some minor changes first. Preferably, these should be made on userspace before being moved to main unless it's a pre-existing table.

Projectile Shield Cleanup
Hey Grampa, I've been working on fixing up the Projectile Shield strategy page to bring it up to Wiki standards and was hoping if you could let me know if it's goin alright as of right now? It's at User:Payn/ProjectileShieldCleanup. Please be brutally honest with your feedback, I want to make it as good as it could possibly be, as it is still a W.I.P. Payn (talk) 06:56, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- I would remove the Medic section in the class-specific strategy, and merge it with the general strategy, or remove the general strategy and merge it with the class-specific section. I also wouldn't put the Medic section at the top of the class-specific list, but rather at the usual placement. As for content-specific stuff, I'll have to go over it 1-by-1 to see if they're useful or not. You'll have to give me permission either here or using
AllowedEditors
on the page.

Mannpower Powerups template
Hi. I'm working on making a template for mannpower's powerups. The link is User:Nihil/Template:Mannpower powerups.
Main purpose is to make it easier to translate/edit powerup table, and to make the list on Mannpower section on List of game modes shorter and easier to read.
I gave you permission to edit just in case if you see anything to fix/improve (I think language transition part might not be right). It would be glad to get any feedback from you.
Also, is it possible to make this table a bit smaller when used on other pages? I think this table itself is enough for Mannpower page, but would be too big for List of game modes page.
Should I make another template to shrink it, or should I make it collapsible? Or maybe there can be other ways to make it fit for the page. I don't know what would be the best, or at least a better way.
I'm greatly thankful for your helps and advices, as always.
Nihil ( Talk | Contributions ) 06:50, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
- Looks good to me. I would recommend either putting all the available translations in there already, or just not replacing them on pages that don't have support on the template yet. Otherwise, I fixed the translation switching template and commented it out (it adds a category by default).

Questions about korean localizations for other uses
template
Hello.
I've been using other uses
template, and I have always wondered if there's any way to change the order of the parameter texts and the non-parameter texts.
It is really hard to explain to foreign people how Korean works even with examples, but here's an example:
- If I use

on korean pages, it currently shows "이 문서는 다음에 관한 것입니다: (text 1), 혹시 이 문서를 찾고 계신다면: (text 2), 이 곳에서 볼 수 있습니다: (text 3)", which is not quite right (believe me).
- The order should rather be "이 문서는 (text 1)에 대한 것입니다. 혹시 (text 2) 문서를 찾고 계신다면, (text 3)에서 볼 수 있습니다". You can see the parameter texts should be inside the non-parameter texts. Yes, I know you probably won't even understand why it is not quite right
tl;dr: I wonder if you, or people you know, know how to change the order of texts and parameters in the template specifically for korean, or if I should make another template for this.
I think making another template is easier than finding out how to change the order, but I wanted to ask you before doing anything.
Nihil ( Talk | Contributions ) 04:51, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
- I believe some other languages had this problem too. Simply replace this template with

Recently deleted edit to Super Zombie Fortress page
Hey i have a problem you deleted my contribution to the Super Zombie Fortress Wiki i added the image because it was different then Zombie Fortress. super zombie fortress and zombie fortress are the same gamemode but there is a difference uper zombie Fortress has looks based on left4dead while zombie fortress Does not have the theme of of super zombie fortress because it is missing the left4dead theme. i just want to know why you deleted my contribution to this part of the team fortress 2 wiki im not mad im just confused thanks for understanding my situation.
DocThenotable (talk) 21:24, 19 March 2024 (UTC)
- As explained in the edit summary, the image didn't really show anything of note. It was a random screenshot taken on a part of a map where nothing of note could be seen. It just doesn't add much value to the page and seems very random.

New template
I made a new template you may want to check out. It is a template all about RGB. It would be useful for people that are used to RGB rather than HEX.
---- Talk Contribs Steam 17:23, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
- Seems like this method is easier to use. The template is very big and basically repeats itself 3 times, it would be better to convert it to hex instead.

Blurry achivement images
I have been exploring the TF2 wiki when I came across to the achivements and I noticed that achivement images are either blurry or pixely. It can been seen on Achivements page. Is it from Steam exported or can it be changed to a high quality end? --Vinzesco (talk) 11:40, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
- Could you show an image of what that looks like? The images are taken directly from the game's files, but if they look blurry it might be because you have your browser zoomed in. If I zoom in to 110% instead of the usual 100%, the icons turn blurry.

- I made some changes here. But there are many more instances of using redirect links rather than the actual pages, as well as a lot of overlinking. For example, it should be Gépágyú, and not Gépágyú. There are still many more instances of that on the page that should be fixed. It's preferred to use
item link
anditem name
instead, which you seem to use later on. In the "Eszközök" section there is also an untranslated line, as well as(record FILENAME in the console) , amelyeket
having a space after parenthesis, then 2 spaces after the comma (+ untranslated line in the brackets). Not sure if that's how Hungarian does it, but other examples don't do that. Remember to addlang icon
after links that don't have translations (such as the Help:Recording demos page, and the VDC links).

Question
Hi, as we talked about earlier, I am soon to begin working on a demo redo for the Cleaner's Carbine. I discussed my PC likely not being able to handle intensely high settings; you messaged me saying that the highest settings should suffice, but I beg to differ. If it's not a bother, and if it's something you're allowed to do, do you think you could write a config file that I could execute to tune my graphics settings to something that is not too high but still looks smooth on my hardware? For a point of reference here are my PC stats (these are from memory, hopefully they are accurate):
- Intel Core i7 (not sure which model), 3.5 mHz, 4 cores
- 16GB of DDR3 RAM
- My PC runs on integrated graphics
Yours sincerely,
Scorchshotgaming Scorchshotgaming (talk) 19:15, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
- I believe that turning up the graphics settings in the settings menu should suffice quality-wise, if your PC can't handle that then it may simply not be suitable for demonstrations, unfortunately.
| s | GrampaSwood (talk) (contribs) 19:17, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
- Ok, once I obtain a Cleaner's Carbine from Scrap.TF, I'll try that. For the sake of performance, instead of directly screen recording it, I'll try and record a demo and then record it. Hopefully everything should go well. Scorchshotgaming (talk) 19:23, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
- If recording the demo at the end is an issue, feel free to send it to me somewhere and I can record it.

- OK, I'll try:
- Model quality: High
- Texture quality: High
- Shader detail: High
- Shadow detail: Medium
- Basically I'll do everything near-max settings and record the demo. But do demos actually capture with your own graphics and FOV settings or do they depend on the person watching it?

Problems with weapon demonstration
Hi, I have tried to begin making my demonstration, however I have been facing some technical issues. If I install tr_karma_wiki and try to load it, the game will completely freeze before it can load the map. This has happened no matter how many times I have tried, in windowed and fullscreen mode. If I remove tr_karma_wiki and join a community server everything is fine. Do you have a solution?
Thanks,
Scorchshotgaming Scorchshotgaming (talk) 09:42, 21 April 2024 (UTC)
- Where have you added the map? I only know that having a map in your custom folder can crash the game. Otherwise, I would have no idea, I assume it's something to do with the new 64-bit.
| s | GrampaSwood (talk) (contribs) 09:43, 21 April 2024 (UTC)
- I put tr_karma_wiki.bsp in tf/maps. I'll try tf/custom, and if that doesn't work I'll just give up. Scorchshotgaming (talk) 09:45, 21 April 2024 (UTC)
- tf/custom should not work, only tf/maps. Try adding
-nosound
in your launch options, apparently people are crashing upon joining if there's sound.

- That's fair, does the game actually crash or just take a long time?
- As far as I know, when it is nearly done at "initializing resources", I sit there for two minutes and it just does absolutely nothing. I think it's just frozen. Maybe it's a fault with tr_karma, or I just didn't install it correctly. Either way, this demo is on hold for a bit until I can figure this out. Scorchshotgaming (talk) 10:00, 21 April 2024 (UTC)

| s | GrampaSwood (talk) (contribs) 11:25, 21 April 2024 (UTC)
- Make sure to use the one provided in the weaponref.
- Wait, actually, the game doesn't freeze; the map loads, except it just stays on a static frame the entire time. I'll try and bind a key to "hud_reloadscheme", then reload the HUD after I think the game has loaded. Scorchshotgaming (talk) 11:34, 21 April 2024 (UTC)
- The game is frozen on a static frame, what do I do? Scorchshotgaming (talk) 11:40, 21 April 2024 (UTC)
- Seems like it is probably caused by the 64-bit update. You can either try adding
-nosound
to your launch options (I've seen some people say this works) or simply wait until there is an update to fix it.

- I've tried the tr_karma_rc1 version on Workshop, which began loading but made no progress on "Upgrading steam resources” (I think it was called that). After it took forever and made no progress, I closed the game then restarted it, again for it to make no progress. Also, like I said, the tr_target_weaponref_hdr download link on the talk page doesn't work. A little help? Scorchshotgaming (talk) 19:26, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
I tried TF2 without my Mastercomfig launch options, everything was the same. Also I checked my installed files for integrity using Steam and it said "1 file failed to validate". I think that's referring to the tr_karma file. Scorchshotgaming (talk) 14:48, 25 April 2024 (UTC)
tr_karma
shouldn't fail to validate, it's likely another file. The download is fine on my end, try turning off any extensions you have. The file gets marked as "possibly harmful" on my PC, so maybe it has something to do with that.

Hello, I saw your reply, and, I get the 2007 version of TF2 in the public domain, and it is now available on the archive Here`s link, if you want: link, I checked this, and game is safe Also, there are SFM, Source ACTBusy tool, Sample tool, VMT Editor.

- Generally talk page entries are answered under the original topic, but this is fine too. Though it's not in the public domain, someone just uploaded it. It falls under "leaked content" as it was a build from before TF2's release. Please see our leaked content policy for more. I've deleted the screenshot for that reason. If you can find a screenshot of it in the SFM that's available on Steam, that would be a better reference, but using old leaked builds is a no-no.

- -- Talk Contribs Steam 02:27, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
- To be whitelisted, you must ask either me or Wikipan and possess a proficient understanding of CSS. Someone being rejected before doesn't mean the same will happen to you.
- That said, we won't be granting access to users solely to change the wiki logo, it would be granted if they wish to push the limits and create something interesting with it (which seems to be your case here - your page is a gem). — Tark 14:46, 4 May 2024 (UTC)

"Talk:Spellbook" move to "Talk:Spell Book"
Hi there.
"Note that Talk:Spellbook should not be moved here as the Delete reason states"
As I see it, it should be moved, because the talk was done in Talk:Spell Book, and not in Talk:Spellbook.
For example, see this diff of mine for moving a page for the same reason: https://wiki.teamfortress.com/w/index.php?title=Talk:Sandwich&diff=prev&oldid=3664824
Tiagoquix (talk) 20:55, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
- It's really not necessary, as the talk was specifically about the article being moved, so it would make sense to just keep it all in one place.

Sapper gibs
Heya! I probably should have posted some proof that the gibs were removed when App-sap was released
https://youtu.be/v8HHS49uKFg?feature=shared&t=378 11 Days Before the update
https://youtu.be/jHA_cwyIUxM?feature=shared&t=46 1 Day after the update (although using the App-sap)
+None of the new sappers after App-sap update have any gibs models tied to them in the games files.
Wabble (talk) 14:50, 16 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hmm, seems likely that it was caused by the switch from the v_model and w_model to the c_model system, so it should be listed as a bug or in the Unused content section rather than be listed in the Update history. This proof is sufficient though, thanks.

Meet The Medic map location
I'm sorry, but I have to disagree on adding the 5Gorge and Degroot note back, as I can't really see any proof of them having anything to do with the Meet The Medic's map (besides using same textures and some pinetree models?). Here's some comparison images of the maps....

https://imgur.com/hG1YOmj
https://imgur.com/a/dfRNaWU
Also for the battalions backup box, if you want to I can show you how the actual box model looks like, but that would fall under leaked content again...
Wabble (talk) 12:41, 19 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hmm, seems like it does closely match it, though for the door I mostly thought they meant a door prop (but I was thinking of Steel instead). Feel free to remove, though next time please add an actual reason for it rather than just describing the removal. It's not necessary to show the box itself, but if it really is a different box altogether then a simple reference where to find this (e.g. a filepath in a leaked SFM/TF2 build) in the edit summary should be enough, though the bat and sombrero are worth nothing on their own.
| s | GrampaSwood (talk) (contribs) 14:15, 19 June 2024 (UTC)
Fair enough, I had just assumed it might be a simple deletion (since the original note didn't have any sources tied to it beyond speculation, but I guess I should have noted that on the summary... :-p). But for the box it can be found in the SFM build under 'locker_stuff/scout_stuff.mdl' and it's just a box with a bat with a flame decal, some shoes and other junk. I guess that part in the notes is pretty good, I would just remove the "stock" part. Wabble (talk) 14:38, 19 June 2024 (UTC)

Free-to-play accounts are VERY far and between, but if you play the game a decent amount of time you'll run into quite a few. Most of them have "(F2P)" or something else in their name showing that they cannot speak, so if you are a spy who is going around using regular voice lines while your name says otherwise lots will get suspicious. I should know this, because my account is free-to-play and I've seen lots of spy players using voice lines while as me. Having the chat say "(Voice) (F2P) watermelonturtle: Medic!" is a pretty weird sight to see for any players, especially when the free-to-play hasn't been talking at all the whole game and only now decides to use voice lines.
But of course your judgment takes priority over mine, so if you truly believe that this tip isn't worth putting up then that's fine. Have a good day! Watermelonturtle (talk) 19:17, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
- Don't worry about if your topic is valuable or not, this is exactly what my talk page is for. The reason I removed it because most players are likely to just not notice voice lines, even if you're premium you'll notice your own name appearing in the chat without you using voice lines. Other people won't realise this. On top of that, a lot of F2Ps don't actually have an indicator in their name, I rarely see it nowadays. It's a feature in community servers to automatically put it on people, but those kinds of features exist purely to discriminate, really, so we shouldn't really be encouraging people to take advantage of them (even though they can actually speak on those servers).
| s | GrampaSwood (talk) (contribs) 19:47, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
Alright, I remember you saying that free-to-play can be a discriminatory thing in servers from your unto reasoning, but I didn't know it was to that extent. Good to know, I get your reasoning now. Thanks for responding! Watermelonturtle (talk) 22:57, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
Big Thanks!
Hey man! Big thanks for always checking my translations and edits, I really appreciate it! It's been a looooong time since I did some translations for this wiki so I really need to get back into it haha. Forgive me for my mistakes :)
I saw you had some requests for translations (seared sorcerer, grandmaster, rancho relaxo) and I was wondering if it'd be cool if took a crack at them? thanks and gn lo1! Poplinn (talk) 22:39, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
- If you want to. But there are plenty of higher priority translations to be done, though. If you wanna start simple you can also just do some other cosmetic items that haven't been done yet.

I override an image upload by you by accident
Hello GrampaSwood. I didn't refresh the page for the image https://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/File:Spycheck_successful_harvest.png until after I uploaded a crop so I uploaded something you did. What should I do now? Delete the new version I made or keep it? Wormsweat (talk) 11:41, 12 July 2024 (UTC)
- Either version works fine, but it's best to keep it as-is because the cache servers may cause a bit of trouble. It happened only a few seconds apart so there wasn't really a way you could've predicted that.

Issues with translation
I made russian translation for Overgrown map (Overgrown/ru). In original page, lots of brazilian dishes were described with links to the wikipedia, but most of the wikipedia pages about this dishes do not exist in russian, so what to do with links to unexisting pages? leave it like this or make links to eng wiki? Yellow ship (talk) 16:02, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
- Usually, they are linked to the English page instead and have
en
added next to them to signify they are in English.

How would I go about adding a demonstration to a wiki page?
In my testing I've come to calculate the effective distance of some "point blank" weapons, i.e The Short Circuit. I later got a message saying I had to provide a demonstration but am unsure what that entails/how to even submit one. TMCR (talk) 21:58, 2 August 2024 (UTC)
- A link to a youtube video in the summary would be enough. The point was more about the distance that the orb travels.

通常未被打上标签的页面会被打上_NOINDEX_的标签,但是是否是缺少Video nav
等类似标签的页面才会被打上_NOINDEX_?Pootis1512 (talk) 17:48, 10 August 2024 (UTC)

Weapon switch time changes undone
Hi there, I noticed you've undone my 3rd August 2024 edit on the Weapons page where I fixed the values of many of the weapon switch times. The values that were originally on the page were from my own edit without video evidence back on 25th July 2016. I decided to recalculate the values upon recently discovering that the deploy and holster speed penalties on swords are 75%, rather than 100%. I've created a table with all the values, which you can check here.
OlimarAlpha (talk) 21:19, 10 August 2024 (UTC)
- Since 2016 the policies have changed, to avoid random changes with possibly no basis, damage and function times now need proof for any changes made to them. As long as you provide this image in the edit summary (preferably on an image host that's also saved on archive.org, as imgur is broken for that), it should be fine.

Robutler healthpack bugs
Shows the robutler's healthpack not healing the additional 50% also, the robutler seemed able to heal me twice? I checked, and its more than just the +50%. Unsure if this is a thing with testing on a local server or that I had sv cheats on (so I could push the cart to get the robots to spawn) but it is interesting
KitChaos (talk) 20:09, 12 August 2024 (UTC)

Heya, could you tell me with more detail how to "add proof" to a wiki page
i recently updated the atom smash wiki page and you unedited it and told me to "add proof" what sort of proof would be benefitial to the page? Gabe125 (talk) 21:37, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
- In this case it would be direct confirmation from a creator, saying they took inspiration from that/Half-Life in general. Just an image link in the summary will be enough, but uploading it to archive.org is preferable.

Toasty Trenchcoat page
I have Shadowman's permission to edit the Toasty Trenchcoat sandbox page. He specifically requested my help with it and asked me to make the all the images for it. Here's a screenshot for proof. I can ask him to add AllowedEditors at some point but I'm pretty sure he's offline at the moment.
With that being said I have a request for you. Painted variants full
is missing some paramaters from the regular Painted variants
template. To be able to upload the Paint images to that page with the proper User image names I think it will need to have the override-prefix parameter. Would you please take a look at Painted variants full
and see if you could update it to have the missing parameters? You're a lot better with template stuff and I don't want to accidentally break it. Thanks. Mediarch ♥ Talk ♥ My Edits 11:08, 15 August 2024 (UTC)
- Attach that screenshot to the undo reason, and then you can add AllowedEditors yourself. Also note that these painted variants should be hosted on User space. I've added the parameter to the template.
| s | GrampaSwood (talk) (contribs) 11:14, 15 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for doing that, I appreciate it. It was my intention to have them be in userspace. I started uploading the paint images but didn't realize override-prefix wasn't working. I stopped once I noticed. Now that override-prefix is fixed the rest will be in userspace. My mistake. I already moved the few files that were named incorrectly. Mediarch ♥ Talk ♥ My Edits 13:31, 15 August 2024 (UTC)
Hi- mind if I ask how the order on that template should be applied to Terror and Chilly, as they appear to be the only maps to be ordered in Halloween (Normal) vs Normal (Halloween)? You noted that "These are based on which came first." and "Atom Smash is not the original Monster Bash because it came after that map", despite Atom Smash being listed first. The same applies to Hacksaw/Bonesaw and Sinshine/Sunshine, where the Halloween variants were added prior to the normal version. Padgriffin (talk) 04:30, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
- The order should be based on which map was created first, not the in-game releases. Atom Smash was created after Monster Bash was created, I don't believe this is the case for the other maps. Most maps follow Original (Halloween) simply because that's the order of creation.
| s | GrampaSwood (talk) (contribs) 04:59, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
- Ah, that would make some sense- though Atom Smash is currently listed first, so we might want to fix that inconsistency. I feel following a consistent format may work better though, as the order of creation isn't really relevant to the casual reader. Padgriffin Griffin's Nest 05:12, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
- It is a consistent format, but the point is to show which one is the "original" version and which ones are based on that. Atom Smash should be reversed, as you said.

I'm not entirely sure on how to provide proof for a bug that should be removed from the Jungle Inferno Contracker page, so I guess I will provide the proof here for that one and undo the edit? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXDdCdA20Ik, the Beggar's Bazooka one has a video link in the references section like normal. Satan being inspired by Funko Wacky Wobbler El Diablo
Man, do you really want me to bug and find these guys emails until they give confirmation so I can cite it? Where I even find their emails? The artist is Jill right? It's pretty obvious that it's inspired by it if you look at the images, should I say "likely?". Should they even confirm this legally? Where I would put this confirmation? Re: Zombie Riot article
Hello GrampaSwood, i do not object to any of the accusations of the Article "Zombie Riot" not meeting the mentioned community topic notability guidelines. I think i cannot add anything that would make the article meet those guidelines. If that is a reason to delete said page, do it, although it will make me a little bit unappreciating - I think its a cool gamemode and the official tf2 wiki is the place where information about these community-made modes should be looked for. Also if you are going to delete it, i must inform you that i made a few mentions to it on other pages (all of them should be linked, so you'll see them with the "What links here" feature). Those mentions don't break any rules, right? Thanks, Drasty (talk) 16:13, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
- Nothing broke the rules, don't worry. But the mod does not meet notability requirements, any other custom game mode that does meet these are welcome to have an article created, but Zombie Riot seems like a mod for 1 community.

Cozy Camper's Weapon Demonstration Video
Hi GrampaSwood, I was watching the weapon demonstration video for the Cozy Camper and I noticed that about 20 seconds in, it shows the flinch difference through a Pyro burning the player.

I'm new to this.
Sorry to post a comment on here, but I saw your reply to my comment on Devastation's discussion page. I was wondering if you had any insight on disabling the gameplay HUD on a map. Or might I need to just open the map in the Hammer editor? I have it pinned on my taskbar, so it's not that big of a challenge to open it. I now understand I need to register my image properly, so thank you for informing me. Ziilus (talk) 21:05, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
- I'm fairly certain
cl_drawhud 0
will do the trick. For the image, you can simply put
in the summary. That will automatically add the appropriate categories and license.
| s | GrampaSwood (talk) (contribs) 21:12, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
- I can't seem to disable the whole HUD for some reason (definitely a fault of my own), but would this be closer to the acceptable standard? The fog effect probably shouldn't be disabled, right? This is the image I have been able to get:

Let's discuss that Hightower edit
Hello! I noticed you very quickly reverted my edit to the Hightower page noting that the map was often used as a makeshift team deathmatch map, under the rationale that community perception of a map is not noted. I'm interested in discussing it further, though, rather than discarding it immediately.
I had looked at Team Fortress Wiki:Policies beforehand, and hadn't seen any policy that explicitly advised against additions of that sort (although maybe there is a policy on another page that I didn't see); and either way, I don't think that my edit falls under the category of "community perception of a map" – it intentionally did not try and comment on player opinions (such as the "no-cap rule"), instead only observing that e.g. players usually don't attempt to push the cart (although perhaps saying that "it is often used by players as..." might need to be revised). I also believe that it's noteworthy enough to be included, as it seems to be what Hightower is best known for (and I had provided a reference to attempt to establish that it's notable, although I couldn't find anything better than SoundSmith's video on it).
Do you have any further feedback / objections? Talk 22:47, 9 November 2024 (UTC) [edited slightly after edit conflict with self]
- It's mentioned here in the Trivia Guidelines. The fact that some players choose not to cap the map simply is not relevant to the map itself and is a slippery slope. Mediarch ♥ Talk ♥ My Edits 23:00, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- The trivia guidelines are not relevant here, but it speaks for itself that content here should be encyclopedic in nature. Similarly as we don't allow cosmetic items such as the Chicken Kiev or weapons like the Sandvich to have a note associating them with the friendly Hoovy fad.

- I think it is probably nonetheless relevant to the map, as – unlike, say, Hoovies, which have no relevance to the Sandvich itself – this phenomenon has a significant and everpresent effect on the map's gameplay, and so I believe it probably must be mentioned to have full "documentation" of Hightower. Talk 23:26, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hoovies are always seen with the Sandvich, we cover the Hoovy/Friendly fad in the Fads article. There are people who see 2Fort as that kind of place, or Powerhouse, but simply listing maps as "people don't do the objective here" is highlighting a single playstyle. I've seen a lot of people also play all those maps normally.

- My original edit did hedge with "often used by players as..." & "many players generally..." to be clear that not all players follow the "rule". Talk 23:52, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- And that's where a big issue lies. I find that 2Fort is played the exact same way as Hightower and people are also kicked for doing the objective, while on Hightower the carts are almost always at their final position and there are often 1 or more people trying to capture it.

- Community perception is only ever noted if it has impacted the game and/or its lore in an official way. - BrazilianNut (talk) 06:33, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
Quotation on cosmetic pages.
I wanted to discuss further about the nature of having (or not) quotations on the pages of cosmetics (specifically in reference to the recent edits to the Whoopee Cap page.) I understand that the style guide mentions that having one is not a requirement for a complete page.
I am open to hearing what specifically should be used as a quote for the Whoopee Cap page that would fit within the criteria. Submackeen gunner (talk) 19:57, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
- If you can find any fitting one for the cosmetic, that one is preferred, but anything that is as generic as "Look at me!" or "Sweet!" to denote that he is happy with his new cosmetic item is an unsuitable one.
- I can't find any good ones myself for the Whoopee Cap, I looked at some of the Scout responses but couldn't find anything.
| s | GrampaSwood (talk) (contribs) 20:02, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
- Fair, fair. I'll go looking for some more contextually relevant ones in a bit. Where should I suggest newer ones? On the talk page of the article itself? Submackeen gunner (talk) 20:08, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
- On the topic you opened could be good, but it might not get much attention from others as that system of talk pages is very bad. Contextually-triggered ones don't exist for the Whoopee Cap, but anything that references getting new badges or anything related to the badges would be a good fit.

- While I couldn't find any Scout voicelines referring to obtaining pins/badges in specific, there are ones in which Scout refers to obtaining something in general, including "Yeah, it's ours now!" and "I got it, I got it!". In addition, there are lines in which Scout refers to getting on the cap, which could be recontextualized as pins being placed onto the hat itself, such as "Hey, get on the cap, guys!" and "Let's get on the cap, fellas!". There is also the Dispenser placement lines which could reference the Dispenser pin featured on the hat itself, "Need a Dispenser here.". The line "We won again? Eh, throw it on the pile." could be contextualized as obtaining a medal of sorts. Lastly for my current suggestions, "Just winnin' another match. No big whoop.", though this one is a bit of a stretch I admit. Submackeen gunner (talk) 21:39, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hmmm, I'm not sure any of these are great. The best ones are the ones about the cap, which a quote text like "The Scout, struggling to fit his new badges on".
