Time to get blotted!
The Demoman

The Ullapool Caber is a melee weapon for the Demoman. It appears as a World War II-era German Template:W Stielhandgranate "potato masher" grenade, with the Mann Co. logo stamped on the head.

The explosives contained in the metal head of the grenade are extremely unstable, and will explode upon striking against either a solid object (such as a wall, floor, etc) or an enemy, consistently dealing 100 damage to the user (not including fall damage), as well as propelling him upward in the ensuing blast. Respawning or visiting a Resupply Locker will restore the grenade to its original state.

Bugs

  • The Ullapool Caber currently has a visual bug where it looks detonated while it isn't.
  • When striking an enemy, the Ullapool Caber will sometimes not deliver the explosion damage. It still deals full explosion damage to the Demoman, but it only slightly damages the struck enemy as if the Caber was already broken. The Caber will appear broken after such an event has occured, but striking an object, wall, or enemy again will cause a second explosion even without returning to the spawn.
  • The weapon does not currently Mini-Crit when used with the Chargin' Targe.

Trivia

The Ullapool Caber after detonation
  • Template:W is the town from the Ross and Cromarty area in the Scottish Highlands where the Demoman was born.
  • A caber is a long wooden pole (usually a section from the trunk of a tree) that is thrown as a feat of strength during the Template:W event of the Scottish Highland Games.
  • Hitting an ally with the Ullapool Caber will not set it off. Hitting a disguised Spy, however, will detonate the Ullapool Caber.
  • The description "High-yield Scottish face removal" was taken directly from the promotional artwork that Swizzle created for his entry in the Polycount contest.
  • It is possible to negate the self damage of the Ullapool Caber's explosion by equipping the Sticky Jumper. However, having the Sticky Jumper equipped will not negate the self damage in Medieval Mode.
  • The Ullapool Caber actually hits the opponent twice when unexploded. Melee damage is dealt when the grenade hits the opponent, then explosion damage when the grenade detonates.
    • Resistances and vulnerabilities such as explosion resistance (like from the Chargin' Targe) and melee vulnerability (like from the Fists of Steel) are calculated at these two instances.
