"It Hates Me So Much" is a riff-based twelve-bar blues prominently featuring alto saxophone and electric guitar.
Customary of a riff-based blues, the melody consists of a single two bar phrase. This melody is repeated by electric guitar for the duration of the track, including during solos. Meanwhile, the tenor saxophones, bari saxophone, electric bass, and organ outline the chord structure acting as the rhythm section. The drumset maintains a standard rock beat throughout except for solo breaks.
After the first twelve bars, the alto saxophone plays a solo above the foundation of the track, with the guitar playing a solo directly afterward. The two instruments trade choruses, with the alto sax eventually "comping" to the guitar solo and providing bluesy fills. The "blues" eventually fade out, while the brass section fades in with a foreboding crescendo, the trumpets playing a flurry of notes before the track suddenly ends.
