Last one alive, lock the door!
The Soldier on proper security

The Battalion's Backup is a craftable secondary weapon for the Soldier class. It appears as a wartime radio pack featuring a transmitter, a folded map secured by a couple of straps, and an attached compass. Accompanying it is a bronze-colored bugle.

Working essentially in reverse to the Buff Banner, this weapon aims to support teams defensively rather than offensively. Once the player's Rage meter displayed in the HUD is filled through taking roughly 175 damage from other players or fall damage in a single life, the pack can be used to make all nearby teammates immune to Critical damage and have a 35% resistance to regular damage for 10 seconds.

Strategy

While it has often been refereed to as a "defensive" weapon, for its ability to reduce damage and fill rage through damage taken, its can be a incredibly powerful offensive weapon. Rage can be filled easily and health quickly regained for a good shot for the Black Box, and once it is, if your team mates are getting hammered, its good to rush in and use the Battalion Back Up. Making them immune to Critical hits, along with the 35% damage reduction, can make all the difference failing and succeeding.

Trivia

  • It is currently possible to fill the Rage meter using fall damage, opening up the possibility of having full charge during the setup phase. It is unknown whether or not this is intentional.
  • If a player activates the weapon and is subsequently backstabbed, death will still occur but the kill will not register as a critical one.
  • Rob "Larolaro" Laro appears to have a special version of this item in his backpack
