— The Pyro on grease removal
|
” |
The Degreaser is a craftable primary weapon for the Pyro. It appears to be comprised of a gas pump, car muffler and exhaust pipe, fire extinguisher, and stove top burner, all attached to function as a Flamethrower.
This weapon reduces the delay caused by weapon switching by 65% for all weapons, allowing easier strategic use of weapon combos such as with the Axtinguisher. In return, the Degreaser deals 25% less afterburn damage against enemies. Unlike the Pyro's previous unlockable primary weapon, the Backburner, this weapon retains the compression blast ability.

Damage
Range | Damage per particle | Damage per second |
---|---|---|
0-200 units | 6.2 | 139.5 |
200-384 units | 3.72 | 83.7 |
- Notes
- Flame damage is identical to the Flamethrower.
- Base damage is based upon range (or, by extension, particle lifetime) and is rounded at the end of all calculations (after Critical multipliers, etc).
- There is very slight variability, ±0.08 per particle, because some particles are at an angle. This makes for slightly varying travel times.
- Damage-Per-Second values assume all particles find victims.
- Base damage changes over particle lifetime, instead of distance from player. All other weapons affected by distance measure from player to player.
- Critical hit: 3× base damage, then round to nearest whole.
- Mini-Crit: 1.35× base damage, then round to nearest whole.
- Afterburn: 2 damage every 0.5 seconds (3 on every 4th tick), 45 damage in total.
- Mini-Crit: 4 damage every 0.5 seconds for 10 seconds, 80 damage in total.
Note: Damage-Per-Second values assume all particles find victims.
Base damage changes over particle lifetime, instead of distance from player (all other weapons affected by distance measure from player to player). Damages are approximate and determined by community testing.
Function times
- Attack Interval: 0.04
- Ammo Consumption Interval: 0.08
- Weapon Switch Delay: 0.2345
All times are in seconds. Times are approximate and determined by community testing.

Trivia
- The Pyro's Degreaser is most likely a reference to the emulsifying agents used to remove heavy oils and grease which are sometimes referred to as "Template:W". Firstly, when mishandled with heat, degreasers (especially engine degreasers) are known to cause severe burn or injury due to their highly flammable and explosive nature, much like the Pyro's weapon. Secondly, degreasing items such as engines, gears, stoves, etc. will make them run more efficiently and possibly faster by removing unneeded gunk. The degreasing nature of the Pyro's weapon may therefore explain why it and all weapons used alongside it can be switched faster.
- It has been reported that the Degreaser is also considerably quieter than either of the other flamethrowers.
- Because of the faster draw time, the taunt glitch is still possible.
- If one counts the kill icons given by compression blasts, the Flamethrower and Degreaser are the weapons that possess the most kill-icons.
- The Degreaser's kill icon can only be seen when destroying buildings, however killing a player with it will show the normal Flamethrower's kill icon.
- Contrary to what most people think, the Degreaser does not do 2 damage per tick on afterburn. It will deal 3 damage every fourth tick so that the total afterburn damage is 45, 25% less than the Flamethrower's 60 damage.
