The Fire Axe is a melee weapon of the Pyro class. In most circumstances, the Flamethrower is a much better choice for targets in melee range. The Fire Axe is typically used on unaware enemies and for humiliation purposes as it has a high Critical hit chance where as the Flamethrower does not. The Critical hit animation for the Fire Axe is a swift right to left horizontal swing.

Trivia

• The Fire Axe has a Normal weapon variant.
• Although the Pyro holds his weapons as if he were right-handed, he holds the Fire Axe, Axtinguisher, and Homewrecker as if he were left-handed.
• The Fire Axe is one of the few items in the game to use one teams color [[ In this case red ) when used by both teams. The other item that does this is the Razorback.
