The Vita-Saw, pronounced "vie-tah saw", is a community-made melee weapon for the Medic. It appears as a rusty gas pump handle, outfitted with a long needle and a blood-stained knife underneath, with a liquid-filled container connected to the top of the main part of the weapon. A small skull and bones symbol, coupled with eight tally marks, has been etched into the flat of the blade.
When equipped, this weapon lowers the Medic's maximum health by 10 to a total of 140. On the other hand, it will allow the player to retain up to 20% of an ÜberCharge upon death. For example, dying with a 12% charge will cause the Medic to retain the 12% charge upon respawning, while dying with a charge of more than 20%, such as 45% of a full charge, will only retain a maximum of 20%. The retention will occur even if an ÜberCharge is deployed, as long as the remaining charge does not deplete below 20%.
The ÜberCharge stored will be kept if the player were to switch teams, but will be lost if they were to change class. The Vita-Saw stores charge upon death, and therefore the Medic can use a different melee weapon while building charge, or even change melee loadout while respawning. So long as he dies with it equipped and doesn't change classes, the Medic will respawn with his previous ÜberCharge percentage, to the maximum limit of 20%. An ÜberCharge is always lost when the round ends.
Similar to the Übersaw, the vial will fill up with a team-colored liquid as an ÜberCharge is built, before draining as it is deployed.

업데이트 목록
2010년 9월 30일 (The Mann-Conomy Update)
- 비타쏘우가 게임에 추가되었습니다.
- Taunting with this weapon now plays the old Übersaw taunt - a deeper viola tone. Previously it shared a taunt with the Bonesaw. [1]
- The mesh's smoothing groups were fixed resulting in clean, hard-edged look as opposed to the molten appearance it had before.
- This weapon was given a unique kill icon.
- Fixed melee attacks not destroying remote detonation pipes (Stickybombs).
- [언급되지 않음] The crafting cost of the Vita-Saw was reduced from one Reclaimed Metal + Übersaw to two Scrap Metal + Übersaw.
- [언급되지 않음] The crafting cost of the Amputator was reduced from two Reclaimed Metal + Vita-Saw to two Scrap Metal + Vita-Saw.
버그
- Upon taunting, the needle of the weapon will noticably clip with the Medic's neck.
- The ÜberCharge vial on the weapon's model does not reflect the current ÜberCharge amount the player has stored.
잡다한것
- This weapon was originally created by IdleTard (model) and Daimao (texture) as a replacement for the Übersaw, hence its similarities to it. Community user Pie_Tony made an alternative texture for the weapon, but this was not used in the final version.
- Due to this weapon's strong resemblance to the ADAM Harvester from the Bioshock series (seen to the right), Valve requested and subsequently received permission from 2K Games to include it in Team Fortress 2.
- The reference to Bioshock is further reinforced in the name, being a reference to the Vita-Chambers from Bioshock. The Vita-Saw and Vita-Chambers even share similar functions; in Bioshock, the Vita-Chambers respawn the player with spare EVE, the energy used to perform abilities, similarly to the Vita-Saw saving a portion of Übercharge after death.
- The original name of the weapon model was the Gentzücken Battle Needle before being officially added to the game.
