The Degreaser is a primary weapon for the Pyro. It is a flamethrower comprised of a gas pump, car muffler, exhaust pipe, a team-colored fire extinguisher and stove top burner.
The Degreaser reduces the delay caused by weapon switching by 65% for all weapons, facilitating strategic use of weapon combos, such as the Axtinguisher. However, the afterburn damage caused by this weapon is reduced by 25%. Unlike its unlockable primary weapon counterpart, the Backburner, the Degreaser retains the compression blast ability.

- The item was added to the game.
- [Undocumented] Fixed native kill icon not displaying when killing enemy players with the Degreaser.
- [Undocumented] Fixed players claiming health by switching to the Powerjack as the enemy dies from burn damage from the Flamethrower.
- [Undocumented] Several particle effects, including Flamethrower fire, were altered to appear brighter. These changes do not apply to ATi graphics card users and some others.
- Updated model with optimizations and new LODs.
Bugs
- Because of the faster draw time, the taunt glitch (whereupon a player may taunt, then quickly change weapon and have the taunt animation play for the originally-equipped weapon) is still possible.
- Sometimes the weapon may appear to produce flames in client view even when primary fire is not held.
- The Degreaser's trigger is too big for the Pyro's hand to reach. Despite this, whenever the Pyro squeezes under the trigger, it will move accordingly.
Trivia
- Template:Ws are emulsifying agents used to remove heavy oils and grease. When mishandled with heat, degreasers - especially engine degreasers - are known to cause severe burns and/or injuries due to their highly flammable and explosive nature, much like the Pyro's weapon.
- The term "degreaser" also refers to the practice of removing grease from objects such as motors and other mechanisms in order to make them operate more efficiently. This may be a reference to the faster weapon switch time.
- Despite the Pyro's immunity to afterburn, the Degreaser allows players to switch weapons fast enough to single-handedly get a critical hit bonus from the Axtinguisher against an enemy Pyro while they are initially ignited. The same mechanic allows a Pyro to single-handedly achieve a mini-crit with the Flare Gun on an enemy Pyro during that initial ignition.
