A vintage gas station pump combined with a car muffler and an antique fire extinguisher provide the Pyro with all of his burning needs. A portable stove top burner provides 4 ignition sources
Degreaser publicity blurb

The Degreaser is a community-made primary weapon for the Pyro. It is a flamethrower that comprises a gas pump, car muffler, exhaust pipe, a team-colored fire extinguisher and stove top burner.

The Degreaser reduces the delay caused by weapon switching by 65% for all weapons, facilitating strategic use of weapon combos, such as the Axtinguisher, Flare Gun and Reserve Shooter. However, damage caused by this weapon is reduced by 10%, and afterburn damage is reduced by 25%. Like the Flamethrower and the Backburner, the Degreaser has the compression blast ability, using 20 ammo per blast.

The kill icon for the Degreaser was contributed by Template:Steam profile link.

Values are approximate and determined by community testing.

Flame damage is proportional to particle lifetime instead of distance from target. Unlike most weapons, Critical hits are also affected by the scaling. Additionally, there is a very slight damage variance (±0.08 / particle) due to differences in particle angles.

Bugs

  • When damage spread is enabled, the Degreaser can deal either 2 or 3 damage at any given tick. When damage spread is disabled, it always deals 2 damage per tick.
  • When fired at a certain angle, the flames can go through a setup gate and attack a player on the other side.
  • Like all of the Pyro's primary weapons (except for the Phlogistinator), flames will sometimes appear to come out of the weapon after primary fire has been released.
  • Because of the how much faster a player is able to switch to this weapon, it is possible to trigger a taunt-glitch wherein the taunt animation for the Degreaser plays for either the secondary or melee weapon, depending on what the player switched to. This glitch was once possible for any class to do with any weapon, but has since been fixed.
  • The Degreaser's trigger is too big for the Pyro's hand to reach. Despite this, the trigger will move accordingly whenever the Pyro squeezes under it.

Trivia

  • Template:Ws are emulsifying agents used to remove heavy oils and grease. When mishandled with heat, degreasers - especially engine degreasers - are known to cause severe burns and/or injuries due to their highly flammable and explosive nature, much like the Pyro's weapon.
