The Heavy after using bread as gloves

The Bread Bite is a melee weapon for the Heavy. It is a small bread monster (from the short film Expiration Date) torn in half and used as impromptu boxing gloves.

This weapon functions identically to the Gloves of Running Urgently, however, while the weapon is in use, the bread monster's head looks around and growls at the player. It also snaps its jaws when the player punches, however this doesn't do any extra damage against enemies and is purely a cosmetic effect.

  • Fixed a bug with the Bread Bite that increased the marked for death time to 5 seconds instead of 3.

  • Added the Limited attribute to the Bread Bite.

December 17, 2015 Patch (Tough Break Update)

  • Changed attribute:
    • Increased holster time penalty.

October 20, 2017 Patch (Jungle Inferno Update)

  • [Undocumented] Changed attributes:
    • Removed 25% damage penalty.
    • Removed Marked-For-Death effect while active.
    • Added attribute: Max-health is drained while item is active (-10/sec), and regenerated while holstered. Health will regenerate only the amount drained while active - minus any damage taken during that time. Each time the gloves are deployed, the drain rate is accelerated for a brief period of time.

  • [Undocumented] Fixed an issue with the Bread Bite where players that were missing health would not be properly restored when touching a resupply cabinet.

  • Fixed Heavy exploit related to infinite overheal using the Bread Bite.

Bugs

  • At higher field-of-views, the Heavy's arms can be seen, although they are completely invisible and unmodeled unlike those of the Heavy's other fist-based weapons.
  • The player can see a part of shrinking right hand when the Bread monster's mouth is opened.
  • Switching between the Bread Bite and other weapons rapidly will cause the max health to go below 100.
  • The weapon attribute When Weapon is Active is missing.
  • The entire weapon is reflective while on DirectX 8.
