This article is about the weapon. For other uses, see Frontier (disambiguation).
You done incurred my wrath, son!
The Engineer on revenge

The Frontier Justice is an unlockable primary weapon for the Engineer. It is a large, vintage pump-action shotgun with ornate engravings on its sides, along with a large wooden stock. A team-colored cylindrical capacitor with an antenna is attached to the right side.

This weapon cannot deal random critical hits and has half the clip size of the regular Shotgun. However, when the Engineer's Sentry Gun is destroyed, he is granted Revenge Crits based on how many kills the Sentry Gun had at the time of its destruction; two Revenge Crits for every kill, and one for every kill assist. Each Revenge Crit provides the Frontier Justice with one crit-boosted shot. Revenge Crits are granted no matter how the Sentry Gun is destroyed, including if the Engineer intentionally destroys it with the PDA. Spies feigning death with the Dead Ringer do not grant Revenge Crits.

The Frontier Justice is only able to store up to 35 Revenge Crits at once. Furthermore, should the Engineer die, he loses all Revenge Crits currently stored. If the Engineer's Sentry Gun is destroyed while the Engineer is dead, no Revenge Crits are given. If the Engineer has Revenge Crits, but is crit-boosted from another source (such as the Kritzkrieg), firing the Frontier Justice still spends Revenge Crits.

Like other bullet-based weapons, the Frontier Justice's first shell fires at least one pellet straight down the crosshair before "bullet spread" takes effect. When random bullet spread is disabled, the pellets spread in a fixed three by three grid pattern, with two pellets overlapping in the center of the grid.

Taunting with the Frontier Justice equipped results in the Guitar Smash kill taunt.

The Frontier Justice is automatically given to any player who obtains 5 Engineer achievements.

Trivia

Radigan Conagher holding the Frontier Justice.
  • The Frontier Justice, along with the Wrangler, the Gunslinger, and the Southern Hospitality, appears to have been designed by Radigan Conagher, the Engineer's grandfather. This is shown via a hidden link on the Engineer Update page.
  • Frontier justice is a form of vigilantism where citizens literally take justice into their own hands and exact punishment on those who have done them wrong (see Revengineer).
  • The Frontier Justice was first shown in the Mac Update trailer, held by the RED Engineer before being officially announced on July 5, 2010.
  • As with most shotguns in the game, the Frontier Justice is a left-handed shotgun (as shown by the ejection port being visible on the left hand side of the gun), despite Engineer holding it right-handed. A right-handed shotgun has the ejection port on its right side to prevent ejected shells from striking the user.
