It chops! It slices! It causes disfiguring burns!
Third Degree publicity blurb

The Third Degree is a melee weapon for the Pyro. It is a team-colored, retro-futuristic axe with a white-hot coil in lieu of a sharpened edge.

The weapon has the ability to deal damage not only to the enemy being struck, but also simultaneously to enemy players healing or being healed by the target with Medic healing beams, and any other enemies further along chains of healing beams. Damage vulnerabilities and resistances, such as those from the Fists of Steel and the Powerjack, are not transferred to other players in the chain. The Third Degree does not have any negative attributes, making it a direct improvement over the default Fire Axe.

Enemies killed by the Third Degree suffer a distinctive death by incineration, wherein they disintegrate into smoldering orange cinders that quickly fade away.

Taunting with the Third Degree equipped plays Pyro's air guitar taunt, but a heavy metal guitar sound plays alongside Pyro's usual mumbling.

The Third Degree was later contributed to the Steam Workshop, at Valve's request.
