The <span class="plainlinks">Pyro Update</span> is a patch for the Pyro, the second class to have a major content pack released, as well as the first shipment of community-made maps, Fastlane and Turbine. Meet the Sniper was released alongside the update, although listed at the bottom of the page rather than as a major part of the update, much like with the previously released Gold Rush Update. The update was released on June 19th, 2008. The update page also had a link leading to the Valve Developer Wiki, which detailed the design of Team Fortress 2 maps.
+
The <span class="plainlinks">Scout Update</span> was the fourth class-content pack released in TF2's development, created for the Scout class. The update introduced 35 new Scout achievements, and 3 new Scout weapons.

The arrival of the Pyro Update also heralded the arrival of the first taunt kill, the Pyro's Hadouken taunt, which instantly kills players in its radius. The update also added the Compression Blast to the original Flamethrower, something that soon after became the core of the Pyro skill set.
+
The update was also the first to not include a Meet the Team video. The Scout also recieved several new voice lines that referred both to his new weapons, and to gameplay events such as point captures and dominations. The update has also been the only one to date that allowed players to choose the unlock order of the weapons through milestones.
