Execution is a taunt for the Pyro with the Scorch Shot equipped.

Upon taunting, the Pyro turns sideways and aims the Scorch Shot ahead, firing a single shot in the direction of the crosshair at the time the taunt was activated. If the flare hits a target at close range, it will deal 420 damage, killing anyone slow, unaware, or simply unfortunate enough to be in the way, save for an overhealed Heavy. At medium or long ranges, the flare only deals the standard 20 damage, but still inflicts afterburn damage.

Because the Scorch Shot's projectile will fire in the direction the crosshair was aiming as opposed to the direction the Pyro is aiming, the Execution taunt can be used to kill enemies directly above or below the Pyro, as well as enemies in any direction.

An Execution kill at close range will completely fill the Pyro's "Mmmph" bar if equipped with the Phlogistinator.

Update history

June 27, 2012 Patch

  • [Undocumented] Added the Execution taunt.

July 2, 2012 Patch

  • Fixed exploit where the Scorch Shot could fire its short range kill pellet at the very beginning of the taunt.

[Unknown Date]

  • Fixed the bug that cause the player to unable to use the Execution taunt during Humiliation and Stalemates.

Bugs

  • The flare can go through thin walls such as setup gates when fired at a correct angle.
  • Using the Execution taunt when out of ammo will still fire a flare.
  • The firing sound can only be heard by other players, not the player that uses the taunt.
  • The Pyro's arm distorts whilst executing the taunt.
  • The taunt duration is different than the animation duration that is played during the taunt, causing the taunt to end "abruptly".
  • When the last shot was a critical shot, the taunt can duplicate the crit flare until the next shot (if not a crit) or death.

Trivia

  • The taunt was featured in Meet the Pyro. In the Pyro's mind, he is blowing bubbles at a cherub version of the Scout. In reality, the Pyro is using the Scorch Shot to shoot the Scout at point-blank range.
