The Tribalman's Shiv is a craftable melee weapon for the Sniper class. It is a wooden machete, consisting of a reddish brown wood for the blade and a typical brown wood for the handle. The blade has both a serrated edge and a smooth sharp edge.

When struck, this weapon leaves a seeping wound in the enemy which bleeds out for 6 seconds. However, the Shiv itself deals 50% less damage as a result. Direct conflict is therefore not a viable strategy for this weapon, requiring the player to perform hit and run tactics in order to take down encroaching enemies and Spies that Cloak once attacked. Its Critical hit animation is identical to the Kukri; a double handed overhead swing.

Trivia
2
* The Tribalman's Shiv is made entirely of wood. Since several plants from tropical areas possess anticoagulant properties (blood-thinners), it has been theorized that the blade may be carved from the wood of one of these plants, (such as a Boldo tree) which would account for it inflicting a profusely-bleeding wound. This would be intentional on Valve's part though, as the creator of the Shiv did not think this (though he has admitted it is logical, and cool).

Let's see how much blood's in ya!
The Sniper on bleed damage

The Tribalman's Shiv is a community-created melee weapon for the Sniper. It is a stylized kukri[1] composed of reddish wood with a curved edge in front and a serrated edge on its broad side.

The weapon deals 50% less damage than the Kukri, but causes the opponent to bleed and lose health for 6 seconds. Because of the reduced initial damage, direct contact with the opponent is not advised — the user should instead perform hit and run tactics to take down encroaching enemies like Spies that cloak when attacked.

The kill icon for the Tribalman's Shiv was contributed by NeoDement.

The Tribalman's Shiv was later contributed to the Steam Workshop, at Valve's request.
