The Jag is a community-made melee weapon for the Engineer. It appears as a modified monkey Wrench with a sharply-curved and pointed prong on the top and a padded grip. The Jag speeds up the construction of any building as it is being constructed or redeployed when the Engineer hits the building with the Jag.

This weapon has 15% faster attack speed and upon being struck by the Engineer, speeds up the construction of any buildings by an additonal 30% over the stock Wrench, whether on initial setup or redeployment. As a downside, the weapon also has a 25% damage reduction, 33% damage reduction against buildings (making it remove Sappers in three hits instead of two), and 20% lower repair rate, making this wrench slightly less effective for maintaining a base or engaging in melee combat. Note that the 15% faster firing speed also means that the Engineer can repair buildings 15% faster, meaning that the 20% lower repair rate is much less impactful than it first appears.

 +
The Jag's construction speed bonus when hitting a building means that an Engineer can deploy a Sentry Gun 0.75 seconds faster, or a Dispenser 1.5 seconds faster, when compared to buildings being struck by the stock Wrench. The Jag's 30% increase in construction rate adds onto the 90% increase in construction rate that is applied when hitting a building with the stock Wrench, so hitting a building with the Jag increases the building's construction rate by 120%. As a result, the construction rate of any building being hit by the Jag is only increased by 15.79%, not 30%.

Ya ain't too fast for me and my machines now, are ya? Heh. Are ya?
The Engineer on faster construction

The Jag is a community-created melee weapon for the Engineer. It is a combination monkey and nut wrench, with a brown taped grip and a distinct curved upper jaw, similar to a Stillson wrench with a sharp point.

Switching from this weapon to the Gunslinger destroys the Sentry the player has built. Similarly, switching to this weapon from the Gunslinger also causes the Combat Mini-Sentry Gun to be destroyed.

The kill icon for the Jag was contributed by Psyke .

 • The Jag was first found fully textured in the Team Fortress 2 game files after the Mann-Conomy Update, and was displayed in the Steam Update image for the Mann-Conomy Update. According to Robin Walker in an email to community author Jman, the Jag was originally intended to be a part of the Engineer Update, and was eventually cut when Valve could not figure out attributes for it. The Jag was later added to the game as part of the Australian Christmas update.
 • The Jag was submitted as part of Jman's submission into the Polycount Pack contest, the Jag Pack.
