The Pyro's Flare Gun replaces the Shotgun in the secondary weapon slot. With the Flare Gun equipped, a Pyro can ignite an enemy at long range, though this does require careful aim. It is particularly useful for causing havoc on Snipers and Engineers who want to keep their distance. It is listed as a Level 10 Flaregun in the loadout menu, and is unlocked after obtaining ten Pyro achievements.

The Flare Gun's shot travels in a straight line for a relatively long range (from 2Fort's battlements to the end of the bridge roof on the opposite end), and then its trajectory curves down drastically. The projectile can still ignite enemies while it's "falling", but disintegrates on contact with any surface. It has a speed of approximately 1450 HU/second (90.625 feet/second).

The weapon fires low-damage flare projectiles that travel at approximately 2000 Hammer units per second (roughly 38 m/s or 125 ft/s). The flares have a shallow trajectory curve that causes them to drop vertical distance drastically at long range. Enemies hit by the flare take minor damage and are set on fire. The damage dealt is not subject to damage falloff or ramp-up from distance. Additionally, flares deliver Critical hits on targets who are already on fire. Unlike most other weapons that require reloading, the Flare Gun is reloaded even if the player switches to a different weapon before the reload animation plays.

A hit on an already-burning enemy with a flare will result in a Mini-Crit; at 800 units or greater distance (a few inches shorter than 2Fort's bridge) it becomes a Critical hit.
+
The flare disintegrates on contact with any surface, or with flares fired by the opposing team, with a hissing noise. While the weapon cannot be fired while the player is underwater, the flare can damage (but not ignite) submerged enemies if fired from land.

Latest revision as of 19:23, 31 August 2024

This article is about the Pyro's secondary weapon. For other flare guns, see Flare Gun (disambiguation).
It allows the Pyro to ignite an enemy at long range, but does require careful aim on their part. It’s particularly useful for causing havoc on Snipers and Engineers who want to keep their distance.
Flare Gun publicity blurb

The Flare Gun is an unlockable secondary weapon for the Pyro. It is a single-shot, team-colored flare gun with a flared barrel.

The flare disintegrates on contact with any surface, or with flares fired by the opposing team, with a hissing noise. While the weapon cannot be fired while the player is underwater, the flare can damage (but not ignite) submerged enemies if fired from land.

Taunting with the Flare Gun equipped results in the Hadouken kill taunt.

The Flare Gun is automatically given to any player who obtains 10 Pyro achievements.
