The Scout is a scrapper from Boston, Massachusetts with a baseball bat and a mean attitude.  He's the fastest mercenary on the battlefield, and his double jump leaves slower opponents struggling to keep up. Carrying a Scattergun, the Scout is ideal for aggressive fighting and flanking, allowing him to inflict massive close-range damage before dashing away to safety.

The Scout is an excellent choice for completing objectives quickly. He captures control points and pushes carts twice as fast as any other class.
+
Born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, the Scout is a fast-running scrapper with a baseball bat and snarky "in-your-face" attitude. He is the fastest and most mobile mercenary on the battlefield unassisted. Scout's Double Jump helps him outmaneuver slower opponents like the Heavy and navigate the terrain while dodging oncoming bullets and projectiles. Carrying a Scattergun, Pistol, and Bat, he is an ideal class for aggressive fighting and flanking. Scout excels at "hit-and-run" tactics that sap away enemy health as his high mobility allows him to get in, do damage, and escape before being noticed. However, Scout possesses the lowest default health pool (alongside the Engineer, Sniper, and Spy), leaving him vulnerable on the front line. However, this is a fair trade-off given his ability to run in and out of contested hot spots quickly, enabling him to turn the tide of battle before the enemy team can even take notice.

The Scout is voiced by Nathan Vetterlein.
+
Scout is a generally excellent choice for focusing on the objective. He is the only class that can capture control points and push carts at twice the normal rate. The Demoman and Soldier can only replicate this ability when equipping the Pain Train. His speed also makes him ideal for capturing intelligence briefcases.

The Scout on the facts of life

Scout is a generally excellent choice for focusing on the objective. He is the only class that can capture control points and push carts at twice the normal rate. The Demoman and Soldier can only replicate this ability when equipping the Pain Train. His speed also makes him ideal for capturing intelligence briefcases.

The Scout is voiced by Nathan Vetterlein.

Bio

Name: Jeremy[1]
Location of origin: Boston, Massachusetts, USA[2]
Job: Rapid Recovery[3]
Motto: "Too. Much. Caffeine."[3]
Special ability: Double jump
Emblems: Scout emblem RED.png  Scout emblem BLU.png
Description: The youngest of eight boys from the south side of Boston, the Scout learned early how to solve problems with his fists. With seven older brothers on his side, fights tended to end before the runt of the litter could maneuver into punching distance, so the Scout trained himself to run. He ran everywhere, all the time, until he could beat his pack of mad dog siblings to the fray.[2]

Trivia

  • After players noted a resemblance between the Scout and TV pitchman Vince Offer, many requested that Valve add a reference to this in-game. With the release of the Scout Update, lines such as "If you order now, I'll throw in a second beatin', absolutely free!" and "No otha' class' gonna do dat!" were added to the game.
  • The Submachine Gun for the Sniper was originally intended as the primary weapon for the Scout. As the 2006 trailer reveals, the switch was made fairly late in development.
    • The Nailgun, a scrapped weapon carried over from Team Fortress Classic, was also intended for the Scout. It was also removed late in development, as its bucket icon is still in the game files.
  • In Poker Night at the Inventory, an image of the Scout wearing the Ye Olde Baker Boy hat makes a cameo as the Jack of Spades & Clubs in the "Team Fortress 2" deck.
