The Jag is a community-created melee weapon for the Engineer. It is a combination monkey and pipe wrench or a combination pipe and nut wrench, with a brown taped grip.
This weapon has 15% faster attack speed and speeds up the construction of any buildings, whether on initial setup or redeployment, upon being struck by the Engineer. As a downside, the weapon also has a 25% damage reduction, 33% damage reduction against buildings (making it remove Sappers in three hits instead of two), and 20% lower repair rate, making this wrench less effective for maintaining a base or engaging in melee combat.
Switching from this weapon to the Gunslinger will destroy the sentry the player has built. Similarly, switching to this weapon from the Gunslinger will also cause the Combat Mini-Sentry Gun to be destroyed.

July 2, 2015 Patch #1 (Gun Mettle Update)
- Changed attributes:
- With the change to Base Construction boost, Jag bonus has improved. 30% increase of 1.5x makes a total of 1.95x (total of 2.95x when base speed is added).
- Added +15% swing speed.
- Added 20% repair penalty. Repairs will give up to 80hp per swing instead 100hp per swing.

Bugs
- In certain instances, the weapon will not remove the Sapper at the other end of a Teleporter.
Trivia
- A jag, or "cleaning jag", is a tool used to clean firearms and thereby improve their efficiency.
- The Jag was first found fully textured in the Team Fortress 2 game files after the Mann-Conomy Update, and was displayed in the Steam Update image for the Mann-Conomy Update. According to Robin Walker in an email to community author Jman, the Jag was originally intended to be a part of the Engineer Update, and was eventually cut when Valve couldn't figure out attributes for it. The Jag was later added to the game as part of the Australian Christmas update.
- The Jag was submitted as part of Jman's submission into the Polycount Pack contest, the Jag Pack.
- The Jag's animations use the prefix
pdq_
. The P.D.Q. was a Wrench tested in the closed beta that also increased the construction rate for buildings.
