The Tribalman's Shiv is a melee weapon for the Sniper. It appears as a stylized Template:W[1] composed of reddish wood with a curved edge in front and a serrated edge at the back.
The weapon deals 50% less damage than the Kukri but causes the opponent to bleed and lose health for 6 seconds. Because of the reduced initial damage, direct contact with the opponent is not advised -- the user should instead perform hit and run tactics to take down encroaching enemies like Spies that cloak when attacked. Its critical hit animation is identical to that of the Kukri -- a double handed overhead swing, similar to the Pyro's normal melee attack and the critical swing of the Eyelander.

Update history
- Added the weapon to the game.
- The Tribalman's Shiv bleed duration reduced to 6 second (was 8), and its damage penalty increased to 50% (was 35%).
- The Tribalman's Shiv view model was updated to match the world model.
[Unknown date]
- Death by bleeding now shows the bleed kill icon. Previously it was whatever weapon the Sniper was holding at the time (or if holding Jarate or dead, the suicide/environmental death kill icon.)
- The weapon now has its own unique kill icon, provided by NeoDement and Galago.
Trivia
- The Tribalman's Shiv is made entirely of wood. Since several plants from tropical areas possess anticoagulant properties (blood-thinners), it has been theorized that the blade may be carved from the wood of one of these plants (such as a Template:W) and would account for it inflicting a profusely-bleeding wound. This would be intentional on Valve's part though, as the creator of the Shiv did not think of this but admitted it was logical and cool.
- Originally, the creator of the Shiv intended to make the viewmodel as it is now, but on a Critical hit the knife would be turned so that the serrated edge would strike the enemy. This required custom animations which neither the creator nor Valve were willing to make, so it did not get implemented.[1]
- The Tribalman's Shiv took approximately 7 and a half hours to make, from formulating the idea to submitting it.
