The Tribalman's Shiv is a community-made melee weapon for the Sniper. It appears as a stylized Template:W[1] composed of reddish wood with a curved edge in front and a serrated edge on its broad side.
The weapon deals 50% less damage than the Kukri, but causes the opponent to bleed and lose health for 6 seconds. Because of the reduced initial damage, direct contact with the opponent is not advised — the user should instead perform hit and run tactics to take down encroaching enemies like Spies that Cloak when attacked. Its critical hit animation is identical to that of the Kukri — a double handed overhead swing, similar to the Pyro's normal melee attack and the critical swing of the Eyelander.
The kill icon for the Tribalman's Shiv was contributed by NeoDement.

Update history
- The Tribalman's Shiv was added to the game.

- Death by bleeding now shows the bleed kill icon. Previously it was whatever weapon the Sniper was holding at the time (or if holding Jarate or dead, the suicide/environmental death kill icon.)
July 8, 2010 Patch (Engineer Update)
- This weapon's bleed duration reduced to 6 second (was 8), and its damage penalty increased to 50% (was 35%).
September 30, 2010 Patch (Mann-Conomy Update)
- [Undocumented] This weapon's view model was updated to match the world model.
- [Undocumented] This weapon was added to the crafting blueprint for the Boston Basher.
- Fixed melee attacks not destroying remote detonation pipes (Stickybombs).
- Added new community contributed response rules to this weapon.
- [Undocumented] The damage bonus attribute was changed from "-50% damage done" to "-50% damage penalty".
Bugs
- It is possible to earn the achievement "Dead Reckoning" with this weapon if an enemy bleeds to death after the Sniper dies.
Trivia
- Originally, the creator of the Shiv intended to make the viewmodel as it is now, but on a critical hit the knife would be turned so that the serrated edge would strike the enemy. This required custom animations which neither the creator nor Valve were willing to make. As a result, the animation was never implemented.[1]
- The Tribalman's Shiv took approximately 7 and a half hours to make, from formulating the idea to submitting it.
- The Tribalman's Shiv is pictured upside down on its kill icon. This is probably because before the September 30, 2010 patch the Sniper used to hold the weapon in reverse, using the serrated side to attack.
