The Rocket Jumper is a training primary weapon for the Soldier. Similar in appearance to the Rocket Launcher, it features an orange-painted blast shield and exhaust with white stripes, and lacks a front iron-sight.

As a training item, the Rocket Jumper fires completely harmless rockets, allowing players to freely practice rocket jumping techniques. The ammo count for the weapon is also tripled, giving the user forty extra rockets to use. In addition the lack of self-inflicted blast damage allows the Soldier to perform the Kamikaze taunt without gibbing himself. Players equipped with this weapon are unable to carry the intelligence.

• The Rocket Jumper was added to the game.

October 27, 2010 Patch (Scream Fortress Update)

• Added -100 health penalty attribute to the Rocket Jumper.

December 22, 2010 Patch

• The Rocket Jumper now has no max health penalty, but has damage vulnerabilities instead.

July 1, 2011 Patch

• [Undocumented] The Rocket Jumper no longer prevents self-damage from the Kamikaze kill-taunt. Also you take self damage when you explode Pumpkin Bombs.

July 22, 2011 Patch

• [Undocumented] The damage penality attribute was changed from "-100% damage done" to "-100% damage penalty".

September 15, 2011 Patch

• [Undocumented] Fixed bug allowing Soldier to damage himself by shooting a rocket and switching weapons before it exploded.
• [Undocumented] The Rocket Jumper now prevents self-damage from the Kamikaze kill-taunt.

May 31, 2012 Patch

• Extra Damage penalties removed
• Players with this weapon equipped cannot carry the intelligence.
• Updated the model and material.

Bugs

• As with all rocket-using primary weapons, excluding the Rocket Launcher and the Original, the Soldier does not load any rockets while reloading.
• Pyros can cause self-damage with deflected Rocket Jumper rockets.
