Get going!
The Engineer

The Jag is a melee weapon for the Engineer. It appears as a modified monkey wrench with a sharply-curved and pointed prong on the top and a padded grip.

This weapon speeds up the construction of any building, whether on initial setup or redeployment, upon being struck by the Engineer. As a downside, the weapon also has a 25% damage reduction, making this Wrench less suitable for Engineers who frequently attack with their Wrench.

The Jag's construction speed bonus when hitting a building means an Engineer can deploy a Sentry Gun 0.75 seconds faster, or a Dispenser 1.5 seconds faster, than being hit by the default Wrench.

Like the Wrench, equipping the Gunslinger or the Southern Hospitality when you have the Jag currently equipped will destroy all of your existing buildings.

January 7, 2011 Patch

  • Updated the material for the Jag. (this refers to the textures)
  • This weapon was given a unique kill icon.

Bugs

  • The head of the weapon clips slightly through the Engineer's hand in client view.

Trivia

  • The Jag was first found fully textured in the Team Fortress 2 game files after the Mann-Conomy Update, and was displayed in the Steam Update image for the Mann-Conomy Update. According to Robin Walker in an email to community author Jman, the Jag was originally intended to be a part of the Engineer Update, and was eventually cut when Valve couldn't figure out attributes for it. The Jag was later added to the game as part of the Australian Christmas update.
