The Cow Mangler 5000 is a primary weapon for the Soldier. It is a large bazooka-style retro-future ray gun.
This weapon is able to fire 5 blasts of energy that delivers identical damage to players as the Rocket Launcher, but reduced damage against buildings. The Cow Mangler 5000 features a "Mangler" bar in the HUD which serves as an indication of its clip; after being depleted, it can be recharged through a reloading process. It does not feature the traditional ammo reserve used by other weapons.
When the Mangler bar is full, pressing the secondary fire button will cause the weapon to begin charging up. During this process, the entire Mangler bar is consumed and the Soldier's movement speed is reduced to a third (from his standard 80% of normal speed to roughly 27%). This charging period lasts for 3 seconds, after which a single charged shot is fired. This shot delivers additional base damage to players as well as dealing mini-crit damage. Additionally, enemies hit by this blast will suffer afterburn identical to that of the Flamethrower, albeit for half of the normal Flamethrower's duration. This also allows the weapon to be used to ignite Huntsman arrows held by a friendly Sniper. The charged shot is further capable for disabling any building for a total of 4 seconds.
This weapon is able to rocket jump and achieves the same height as the Rocket Launcher.
Enemies killed by the Mangler suffer a unique death; they will turn black and hover in mid-air while team-colored fire particles surround them and their body disintegrates, similar to a kill with the Energy Ball[1] from Half Life 2, but without the colored particles.

Update history
- The Cow Mangler 5000 was added to the game.
Bugs
- The weapon does not deal critical hits even while crit boosted.
- Attempting to rocket jump with a charged shot will set the user on fire, awarding the "Pilot Light" achievement.
- Taunting while charging a shot will fire the charged projectile during the taunt animation.
- Deactivating Sentries during humiliation will cause them to reactivate and shoot the winning team.
- Upon destroying an Engineer's building, the kill icon will still include a stick figure's body and skeleton.
- The Soldier's right arm has a tendency to flicker during the reload animation.
- Afterburn kills will be credited to whichever weapon slot he is currently holding.
- After setting someone on fire and then switching to the Half-Zatoichi, if they die, the weapon will be bloodied but the Soldier remains honorbound.
- Causing an enemy spy to feign death with the Mangler will sometimes create 2 corpses: one a ragdoll corpse and the other a vaporized corpse.
Trivia
- Killing one's self with the afterburn of a charged shot will display a previously-unused environmental death icon seen on the right.
- The name Cow Mangler is a reference to the association, in popular culture, of alien contact co-inciding with cattle mutilation. The weapon itself is reminiscent of alien energy-weaponry from 1950s B-movies.
Notable Features
- The emmitter of the gun bears a resemblance to the teats of a common cow. It is unknown whether this is intentional.
