Can you believe the Sniper found an old bolt action rifle, a long piece of metal, some bolts, one half of a binocular and a military grade laser sight, ALL for just under three dinars?
Bazaar Bargain publicity blurb

The Bazaar Bargain is a community-made primary weapon for the Sniper. It is a long ornately carved rifle with a small circular sight attached to a long rod, secured with golden straps. It has a curved stock with a golden recoil pad and a laser sight attached under the barrel.

This weapon features a specific bonus attuned to headshots. At the bottom-right of the screen, there is a head counter very similar to the Demoman's Eyelander. Upon spawning, the headshot counter is set to 0. As such, the zoomed charge rate of the weapon is 20% less than that of the Sniper Rifle. Upon the player successfully scoring a headshot, the charge rate of the next shot taken will be 10% faster. Subsequent headshots will increase the charge rate by 10% increments, until the bonus caps out at 7 consecutive headshots, at which the weapon will have a 50% faster charge rate than the default Sniper Rifle. Should the player deliver a scoped body shot or miss while scoped in, however, the headshot counter will decrease by one and the charge rate will decrease by 10%. Unscoped shots taken with the weapon will not affect the charge rate. Hitting an Engineer's building while scoped in counts as a "miss".

This item was previously tested in the Team Fortress 2 Beta as the Beta Sniper Rifle 1.

Bugs

  • Although the headshot counter appears to max out at seven, it actually continues to count headshots beyond seven. Additional headshots will not grant any further increase in charging speed, but will allow the player to score several bodyshots without the charge speed and the visible counter falling, as long as the headshot counter is at seven or above.
  • The headshot counter won't show up in minimal HUD mode unless the Jarate is equipped.
  • This weapon lacks team-colored critical boost textures, and will only surge with lightning to represent a critical boost.
  • If an Eyelander wielding Demoman kills a Sniper with headshots on the counter, the headshots will be transferred over to the Demoman's head count.
  • Crit-boosted bodyshots add to the headshot counter.
  • Scoring a headshot against either a Scout under the influence of Bonk! Atomic Punch or an Übercharged enemy will raise the headshot counter, even though no damage is dealt.
  • Attempting to scope while returning to first person after taunting will cause the Sniper to scope as usual, without a laser sight. However, the player will be the only one affected; other players will still be able to see the player's laser dot.
  • The weapon's attributes still lists "a scoped miss wipes the bonus" as an attribute, despite a miss now only removing one headshot from the headshot counter.

Unused content

  • There is a sound in the GCF labeled as sniper_bazaarbargain_shoot.wav, which is the Sydney Sleeper firing sound under a different name.

Trivia

  • The Bazaar Bargain is based on the Template:W, a type of musket that was commonly used in the Middle East. While the quality and manufacture of such weapons differed widely, a common feature of these weapons lay in their use of a heavily curved stock and rifled barrels, the latter of which gave them a great advantage in range and accuracy over the smoothbore firearms that were commonly used up until the mid-19th century.
  • "Template:W" is a Persian word for a large market where goods are sold. Bazaars can be found across the world, though they are most common in the Middle East, primarily in Iran, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt.
