The Soldier on the culinary arts

The Frying Pan is a melee weapon for the Soldier and Demoman classes. It appears as a slightly worn cast-iron skillet with a thin film of grease caked onto the bottom.

The Frying Pan simply replaces the Shovel or Bottle without altering gameplay mechanics, similarly to what the Lugermorph is to the Pistol. Critical hit animations are identical to the default weapons, as are the taunts. Upon contact with a surface or player, it will play sounds identical to those used in Left 4 Dead 2.

This weapon was earned by players who purchased Left 4 Dead 2 before October 7, 2010 as part of the Sacrifice DLC.[1] Players also received Ellis' Cap as a part of this promotion.[1]

Previous Changes

It was possible to craft this weapon using the "Fabricate Class Weapons" blueprint before the ability to do so was disabled, making the Frying Pan the first promotional item that could be obtained without qualifying to receive it until it could be traded.

Trivia

Soldier frying maggots
  • On The Sacrifice update page, the Soldier can be seen cooking maggots in the Frying Pan while the Scout, wearing Ellis' Hat, looks on. It appears the two classes are sitting in part of the map Viaduct.
  • When the Demoman taunts with this weapon equipped, he will appear to drink from the handle, much like the Pain Train.
  • Even though the Frying Pan uses the hit sound effects from Left 4 Dead 2, when the Soldier taunts and hits the Pan off his head, the impact noise is the same as the Shovel.
