— The Engineer on manual punishment

The Wrangler is an unlockable Pistol replacement for the Engineer. It is part of the Engineer Update and was announced on Day 2.
While selected, it allows the Engineer to take control of his Sentry Gun's aim from any distance, and the Sentry stops aiming automatically. When the Engineer takes control, a laser sight is emitted from the Sentry, used to aid the Engineer in aiming where the gun will fire, but also has the effect of allowing enemies to quickly ascertain where the sentry is located.
The Wrangler also gives the Sentry a shield that absorbs 66% of incoming damage, doubles the gun's firing rate, and increases the missile launch rate at level 3. When switching to another weapon away from the Wrangler, the Sentry is left defenseless for 3 seconds, after which time it will resume normal operation.
The left mouse button fires the bullets, while the right mouse button fires rockets.
The Wrangler allows a clever Engineer to get to high places through the use of a Sentry rocket jump

Trivia
- The Wrangler, as with the Frontier Justice, the Gunslinger, and the Southern Hospitality, appears to have been designed by Radigan Conagher, the Engineer's ancestor. This is shown by a hidden link in the Engineer Update
- The main component of the Wrangler bears a striking resemblance to the control pad of the Atari 2600.
- Humorously, the Engineer's hand appears to get cramps after rotating the Wrangler's joystick for a period of time.
- At this time, the laser emitted from the Sentry while using the Wrangler will travel through some walls.
- Of interest is that the damage reduction for the controlled Sentry applies to ANY damage source (as far as I've seen), including that dealt by a Taunt Kill. Because a Level 3 Sentry has such a high effective health value (648) when controlled, it can survive any Taunt Kill that is able to damage buildings (Hadouken, Kamikaze, or Fencing) with a small amount of health left; this is the second entity able to survive a hit from a Taunt Kill, the only other being a Spy equipped with the Dead Ringer.
