The Medic, Meet the Medic

The Medic is a Teutonic man of medicine. While he may have a tenuous adherence to medical ethics, he is nonetheless the primary healing class of the team. Although the Medic's Syringe Gun and Bonesaw aren't the greatest weapons for direct combat, he can typically still be found near the front lines, healing wounded teammates while trying to stay out of trouble.
+
The Medic is a German man of questionable medical practices from Stuttgart, Germany. As the only class with a consistent healing source, he is often found near the front lines bolstering his teammates. Although the Medic's Syringe Gun and Bonesaw aren't the most excellent weapons for direct combat, he can typically still be found near the front lines, healing wounded teammates while trying to stay out of enemy fire.

When the Medic focuses his Medi Gun on a teammate, they will regain health points. Teammates who are already healthy will have their health buffed beyond the normal limit, up to 150%. Teammates who have not taken damage recently will be healed more rapidly, encouraging smart withdrawals when injured.
+
When the Medic focuses his Medi Gun on a nearby teammate, they will gradually regain health; patients who are already at full health have their health temporarily increased up to 150% of their base health capacity, allowing them to fight more aggressively. However, teammates who have not taken damage recently are healed faster, encouraging other players withdrawals when injured.

When healing, the Medic's unique ÜberCharge bar will gradually be filled, gaining charge faster if healing injured teammates. When the ÜberCharge bar is fully charged, the Medic's healing gun will begin to crackle with small jolts of electricity, indicating that he can now deploy a unique charge to benefit his patient and himself for eight seconds. A charge from the Medi Gun offers temporary invulnerability, a charge from the Kritzkrieg offers his patient guaranteed critical hits, and a charge from the Quick-Fix offers rapid healing and immunity to knock back.
+
When healing, the Medic gradually fills a unique ÜberCharge bar, which can fill faster if healing injured or not-fully-overhealed teammates. When the ÜberCharge bar is fully charged, the Medic's Medi Gun begins to crackle, accompanied by small electric team-colored particles at its tip, indicating that he can now deploy a unique charge to benefit his healing target (and himself) for eight seconds. A charge from the Medi Gun offers temporary invulnerability; a charge from the Kritzkrieg grants guaranteed Critical hits to your heal target; the Quick-Fix grants rapid healing, along with immunity to knockback and compression blasts from Pyros; and the Vaccinator grants enhanced damage resistance to a specific damage type (bullets, explosives, and fire).

Although the Medic cannot heal himself, he is capable of slowly regenerating health over time; the longer a Medic stays out of combat and avoids taking damage, the faster his health will recover. An injured Medic will begin regeneratng health at a rate of 3 health per second, scaling up over the following ten seconds to a maximum of 6 health per second. This base rate can be negatively affected by the Blutsauger and boosted with the Medieval Medic item set.
+
Although the Medic cannot heal himself with his Medi Gun (unless using the Quick-Fix's ÜberCharge or the Kritzkrieg's Oktoberfest taunt), he is capable of passively regenerating health over time. The longer he stays out of combat and avoids taking damage, the faster he will heal. By default, an injured Medic begins regenerating health at a rate of 3 points per second, increasing over the following ten seconds to a maximum of 6 health per second, though this base rate increases while holding the Amputator and is reduced if the Blutsauger is equipped. Healing injured teammates will double the current rate of health regeneration, encouraging the Medic to heal them over healthy patients.

The Medic is voiced by Robin Atkin Downes.
+
The Medic's lower firepower and combat abilities mean that he is more reliant on his teammates defending him than his own weapons defending him. The Syringe Gun's slow projectiles and low damage makes it hard to fight any class head on, while the Bonesaw's limited range puts the Medic in considerable danger.

* The low-quality model of the Medic has a leak on his back. Meet the Medic
MedicVidSplash.png
... Let's go practice medicine.
The Medic, Meet the Medic

The Medic is a German man of questionable medical practices from Stuttgart, Germany. As the only class with a consistent healing source, he is often found near the front lines bolstering his teammates. Although the Medic's Syringe Gun and Bonesaw aren't the most excellent weapons for direct combat, he can typically still be found near the front lines, healing wounded teammates while trying to stay out of enemy fire.

The Medic is voiced by Robin Atkin Downes.

Icon medic.jpg
  • Use your Medi Gun to heal teammates, and buff them up to 150% of their normal health.
  • Fill your ÜberCharge by healing teammates. Then hit secondary fire (Default: Mouse2) to activate.
  • Your ÜberCharge makes both you and your Medi Gun target invulnerable for a short time.
  • You fill your ÜberCharge faster by healing teammates who are more hurt.
  • Keep alert for teammates calling for your help. Use the Medic arrows onscreen to find them.

Unused content

  • In the VPK, there is an unused texture for a RED Medic which features his beta hairstyle; lighter and shorter. It is listed as medic_head_red. Both teams in-game use the same head texture.

Bugs

  • The low-quality model of the Medic has a leak on his back. This is not commonly seen, since the Medi Gun and the Quick-Fix backpack covers it; however, since the Vaccinator has a different style of a backpack on a different placement, the leak is shown. It is also shown slightly when equipping the Medic Mech-bag or the Scrap Pack cosmetic items.
  • During humiliation, the Medic's arm may appear bent and clips through his head if the secondary weapon is equipped.[2]

Trivia

  • The Medic's glasses and hair make an appearance in Worms: Reloaded as one of the selectable hats for the player's worms.
  • The Support class of Monday Night Combat had a promotional item of the Medic's backpack and the Engineer's hardhat named "Doctor Dispenser."
  • The Medic was originally going to have an oversized needle presumably instead of the Bonesaw, as referenced to in a 2006 trailer.
  • The first BLU team Medic resembled Sigmund Freud.
  • Just like the rest of the classes, the Medic makes an appearance in the Saints Row: The Third in the form of a wearable head mask.
  • The Medic keeps a flock of doves as pets, which are allowed to fly around in his office (despite hygiene concerns). One of them is named Archimedes, who is easily noted by having blood stains, unlike the other doves.
    • Archimedes is named after the ancient Greek scientist and seems to share his owner's fascination with blood, evidenced by his leaning in while watching surgery and nesting in open wounds (as both the Heavy and Scout learned).
    • According to the Archimedes plush in the Valve store and in-game item description, the Medic obtained Archimedes after hijacking a catering van during a prime minister's wedding.
  • The Medic, alongside the Pyro, Heavy, and Engineer, appears as a familiar in the game Dungeon Defenders.
  • The Medic was briefly given the name of Joseph Heilburger by Gaming Heads, a video game merchandiser, when promoting a Medic figurine; it was removed and is regarded as non-canon. This was most likely taken from a fan-made Halloween update, which used the same name.
  • Medic's last name "Ludwig" was first used in The Naked and the Dead, page 208.
  • Medic's design is repurposed from the pre-release design concept known as Invasion.
    • This can be seen in the concept art, certain concepts fit the steampunk sci-fi style rather than the early 20th century commercial illustration style the game released with.
